Are we on the same level as far as money goes?

Yes. We have deep pockets and can offer top 5 to 10 $$$ to coaches.

That's not saying much. At some point, it just stops being about money.

For example, Oklahoma State could offer big money to someone if T. Boone Pickens liked the guy. That doesn't mean they have the ability to hire the top coaches.

you agree w/ Sun Hog's assertion that Ark has arrived? I'm curious to hear more evidence outside of an influx of money and support, which is basically what he's hanging his argument on.

It all depends on what you mean by "arrived," or what you mean by "on their level." Petrino took Arkansas from a top 35 team to a top 15 team, and as long as we hire a top coach, we should stay in the top 15 due to our money, fanbase, facilities, etc...

money only gets a program so far, right? It is by no means a sign that your program has arrived. See ND, UF, Tenn etc all w/ a much better historical and recent success.

what else would 'arrival' mean in FB? on the field success and championships

If that's what you meant, why did you even ask the question? We all know Arkansas hasn't won an SECC, and we all know our record has been pretty mediocre for the most part up until the last 2 years and a couple decent years here and there since we joined the SEC. If that's what you mean by "arrived," then of course Arkansas hasn't arrived yet. However, we have a chance to have our 3rd straight 10 win season, so I'd say we're on the path to "arriving," but we need to capitalize on the talent we have this year and need to go out and get a good coach to continue on that path.

bc I'm curious to see others' opinions on how success should be measured in FB. Forbes and the WSJ and having the ability to pay a lot of money for a FB coach or actual results

I think "arrival" happens before championships. First you get to a certain level in terms of talent and coaching, etc. Then you become competitive. Then if the chips fall your way you win championships.

That is how it typically happens. I think Arkansas is at stage 2 of this developmental path - they are competitive.

Their problem is that they happen to be in the toughest division in college football at the moment, with two absolute powerhouses in LSU and Alabama - not to mention a third (Auburn) which is kind of a wild card.

I agree that they were getting close to this stage on offense, but just took a large step back.

In short, false.

Did yall just completely skip over the first part of my post?

quote:

No and we probably won't ever be but that doesn't mean we won't ever get an SEC title or NC. We lack the ability to be consistently very good. Most schools do (hell, look at Florida and how shitty they are compared to what they were (USC, FSU, etc etc)

On everything except $ we are not on the same level.

I'm not saying having $ made us equal or anything like that. That's just saying we can compete money wise with big name schools.

Does Ark's recent influx of money to the program, coming stadium expansion, Top 10 ranking by Forbes and WSJ, and Top 5 finish last year signify the arrival of the football program to the country's elite?

nope.

arkansas is going to have to maintain that recent influx of money that was due to the success of bp and weirdly enough, to his departure.

arkansas is going to have to pony up and get a great coach and one who is also an incredible recruiter.

arkansas is going to have to be able to get a lot of recruits from other states...namely texas.

and to start things off, they will need to have a great showing in the sec west this year, no blow outs, and a win in a good bowl game against a decent team.

False

Bama, LSU and Florida are still a step below Arkansas but have definitely made strides recently.
