UK should hire an all-time great Athletics "advisor" for $500 k per year to take some of those dinner dates and hat passing off of him.

Seriously though, it's a non-sustainable situation. Boosters will tire of ever raising costs to support collectives. There is only so much to give to raise NIL money and still pursue quality facility and resource improvements. Revenue sharing will take a lot of that pressure off.

But that has always been part of the deal, way before NIL and the portal.

If someone takes the time to read it from a human perspective, and without partisan sports politics, then it's pretty telling. It's definitely wearing on him, and Mitch should find a way to help alleviate the stress with an appointee that can do the work.

I feel bad for him and he is using direct and deliberate language as not to be misinterpreted. When your coach says he can't "coach the way he wants" then people in charge better listen and act.

Forgive me for not having an ounce of sympathy for someone who makes millions to be mid.

These coaches get guaranteed millions before they even start coaching.

The smart ones like Jimbo Fisher get their money and do the bare minimum.

The job is not remotely the same as it was even five years ago.

I don't blame him I would be tired of dealing with entitled brats. You think a football scholarship and free college education would be enough sadly money rules everything.

All of the SECRant social justice warriors said NIL and Portal would even the playing field and be a good thing for mid's like Kentucky football. Some are still here now doubling down trying to defend it, with classism.

There were some forward thinking reasonable and intelligent people like myself who told you all exactly, word for word, how all of this would go down.

I know all of these schools have guys on staff that are "in charge" of NIL, but I wonder how much control they really have. I feel like schools are soon going to have to hire legit GM's to handle the money and getting players. I don't bad for any of these coaches making millions of dollars, but being a college head coach seems like one of the most time consuming and stressful jobs you can have.

I don't care if players get paid, at the same time I don't want the circus this has become either.

It really does sound awful. Most of these coaches just want to coach the game, and not schmooze donors.

> Schmooze donors
> Coddle +100 players on your own roster
> Glad hand agents and parents of prospects
> Evaluate & recruit the portal non-stop
> Evaluate & recruit high school talent
> Appease you Athletic Director
> Stay in the good graces of your compliance officers
> Energize & excite your boosters so they'll open wallets
> Hire/Fire staffers
> Develop players
> Actual COACH players and game-plan for oponents

Pretty much this. But it is the new reality. If you want to just focus on actual coaching and not deal with NIL - then a lower profile and lower paying job would be a better fit.

A&M is lucky as hell the deal w/him fell apart at the last second b/c if he feels worn down and beat up at Kentucky his brain would have melted trying to manage the expectations and fanbase down in College Station.

He's pretty much raising a red flag to his athletic director and Administration, get him some help NOW.

Hell, Calipari specifically mentioned some of the exact same issues he dealt with at UK. Arkansas immediately gave Cal a $5MM boost to his NIL funds when he took the job which alleviated the pressures and time required to raise those funds on his own like he had to do at UK.

That's two of the HC's for the main revenue sports all but screaming for assistance and help to do their jobs and meet the demands of coaching their sport.

Sounds like he might be done with it all soon. Cannot blame him
me either. Go to the NFL and let a GM handle all that shite. With real contracts no less.

Agreed. But if I was a HC making $8-10 million a year I’d probably give up $1-2 million of that to hire someone to completely deal with the NIL side of things. Or at least deal with the vast majority of it.
