I'm pretty sure coming out and admitting that you asked for money is a confession and the "accused" part is no longer valid.

You got a link that quotes him directly admitting this? Or just the Mark Winnie piece that says he has a source who talked to Cecil?

Just because its a rule violation, does it always mean he is ineligible?

I have wondered about this as well. Its not like he is a paid player (or his he?) and can be fined. I don't know what other form of punishment there would be other than to declare him ineligible or at the very least make him sit out games.

College football has changed not because of this scandal BUT because of the NCAA's delay in acting. Since they have essentially given their stamp of approval to Cam's dad prowling for cash, from now on:

- every sleazebag Dad/Uncle/Brother/Grandpa of every stellar athlete will now go on the prowl themselves for cash because the NCAA has established the precedent that there are no consequences

- we will never see another instance of a school taking the initiative to suspend a kid who is of questionable standing. Auburn has proven you have everything to gain by rolling the dice.

They see this as a chance to jump back in the limelight with Bama in recruiting and national perception and they're determined not to miss that chance.

The NCAA hasn't made a ruling yet. And what you posted is exactly why they're going to come with a big hammer. As a bama fan, I've seen this enough to understand, they may seem quiet and like it's not big deal, but once they start reading the punishments, they aren't nearly so friendly.

They're just gathering evidence. There is absolutely no way that someone doesn't go down hard, if the rumors about Cam's dad admitting to asking for money are true. They simply can't allow that. Then every parent would ask for money and claim their kid didn't know about it.

Not only this, but Alabama needs to sue the NCAA over the Andre Smith suspension before the Sugar Bowl. After all, his uncle apparently solicited things from an agent without his knowledge. If Andre Smith would have played in the Sugar Bowl and won then Alabama would have had to forfeit the game. How on earth is this any different than the Cam Newton situation and the 2010 season? I guess the NCAA is going to ignore there own precedent.

Charles Goldberg, who has been discredited on this board as an AU biased sunshine pumper wrote this...

"Newton's father, Cecil Newton Sr., told investigators last week that he discussed money with people associated with Mississippi State. Cecil Newton also said that neither his son, his wife nor Auburn knew of that discussion, and that he did not have a similar discussion with Auburn."

Exactly, you know the little brother wants to grow up and be just like the big brother. Problem is, Big brother has all the talent, genetics, and attention. Little brother is left with hand me down clothing and daddy issues.

I feel like AU knows they are fricked so they might as well frick up everybody else too. I think its gonna make sanctions stronger in the end.

It would be nice if Bama were to beat them.

I read that and am assuming that he is using the Mark Winnie piece, considering not one reporter can write:
quote:

According to Cecil Newton, "Yes, I asked for money but nothing ever happened".
No one can use quotation marks because they haven't talked to him.

The big difference I see is that in the AJ Greene case, there was an obvious irregularity in his bank statement, and from what I understand when asked about it, Greene was open and honest about where the money came from.

If only Cecil and Cam had been honest then this investigation would be over by now.
