Odd time of the year to call for a press conference out of the blue.

Gut reaction has to be a retirement announcement.

This sounds like it's going to be painful.

In. I doubt highly it's retirement. Knowing his personality, he'll go through the entire season thinking it, but won't tell anyone until it's over. That's just the way he is. He's not one to want the "victory lap" season. But I may be wrong.

I called that he would before practice also. Better to get it out of the way so it won't hurt recruiting.

Sorry if I put cart before horse there: abruptly announced Spurrier press conference at 4:30. Will not be an earth-shattering announcement.

Think we can stand down on the Steve Spurrier Retirement Press Conference Alarm. Whatever he has to say, it won't be that.

Sorry everybody.

takes the distraction away from questions all season and allows usc all year to find a new coach

I hope not. We had a top 5 recruiting class by the end of last year, he said "about 2-3 more years" and the class nearly came apart with decommitments. He had to go on later to say "4-5 years again"

I know he has to retire sometime, I guess dead of the summer would be good as any from a recruiting standpoint.
