That would be your confusion

I said that Florida lied to Rashada to get him to sign the NLI to the Gators.
Those promises prevented Rashada from signing elsewhere for significant benefits.

I have absolutely no confusion.
And discovery will be glorious.

Get comfortable.

You very obviously have not read the lawsuit.

Also the odds of there being any discovery are at around 1%. This will certainly be settled out of court

That's the whole point. Easy money. That appears to be the Rashada playbook. Seems likely to be the only playbook he focuses on.

If Florida did nothing wrong, why settle?

If Florida wanted to settle, why let it get this far to smear the program publicly with the lawsuit? They have had almost 18 months to make this go away.

This is an illustration of a poorly run organization making poor decisions over and over and over again.

Someday, Florida fans will look back and confirm that they are led by morons.

Are you serious? Businesses and individuals settle civil suits all the time to avoid legal hassle and bad PR? This is extremely common.

You don't settle a lawsuit before there is a lawsuit. What are you even talking about?

The same reason UGA offered to settle with Cade Mays.

1) the bad PR is out there.
If the goal was to settle, get ahead of the PR nightmare.
2) Florida is setting a precedent that they will open the wallet every time a representative of the university gets out over their skiis. Like I said... the bad PR is already here. At this point, win the damn lawsuit if there is nothing to hide.

I presume that you mean his father.
The dad had significant hardships. Loss of consortium. That never goes away

Potential defendants settle claims all the time before they become lawsuits. The question is whether Rashada's lawyer made a formal claim/settlement demand to the defendants before he filed suit.

And there may very well be some discovery done before a settlement is reached.

UGA shouldn’t have given Mays father one dime. If the guy was too stupid to sit down in a folding chair without cutting off his finger, why is UGA responsible.

Just about every article from a Florida journalist said that they knew this was coming for a long time.

The problem is that Florida is being accused of lying. Tricking a kid.
Settling doesn't make that go away.

Florida will settle. But not because they want this to go away. They will settle because a lawsuit will get much, much worse.

A fraud claim carries with it the potential for punitive damages, so Rashada's lawyer will probably want to build his punitive case in discovery and drive up the potential verdict amount before he settles. And this most likely isn't covered by any sort of insurance policy so whoever pays the settlement will be paying out of pocket.

Well settling implies guilt according to meansonny.

The way I understand the story, Rashada isn't suing for the $13.85m Florida promised him, he's suing for the ~$8m he passed up from Miami based on fraudulent bullshite fed to him by Napier et al.

He's suing for more than that. He isn't limited to recovering $8 million if he can establish fraud.

I was referring to the cause of action, not the actual damages. I should have been more clear. He isn't suing them for Florida not paying him, he's suing him for lying to him which made him give up the Miami money.
