Potential defendants settle claims all the time before they become lawsuits.

There was no complaint before last week.

"Hey let's give that kid a million dollars just in case he sues someday" is the logic you're operating on.

The PR is out there because a lawsuit was filed. You don't proactively offer money without a complaint. That would be ... insanely stupid.

You stop the bad PR by preventing a trial. Then people forget.

This shite happens every single day. The damages are low enough specifically so UF says "this isn't worth fighting and dragging out"

If UGA settled they should not have. This dumb arse couldn’t even sit down in a folding chair without cutting off his dang finger. Didnt he have enough sense to know you had to fully open the chair first? I heard he was a UT grad so that probably explains things.
Apparently after a couple of years an ambulance chaser lawyer convinced him there was big money to be had and this ridiculous lawsuit was born.
Any UGA lawyer who recommended settling this case is as stupid at Daddy Mays.
I’m not sure there actually was a settlement. Haven’t heard a thing about this stupid lawsuit in a long time.
Last I heard the finger was successfully reattached. A UGA assistant coach - might have been Coach Sam Pittman, not sure though as it’s been a while - reportedly picked up the finger, put it on ice and took it to the hospital.
This idiot should have been thanking UGA instead of suing them.

The way I understand the story, Rashada isn't suing for the $13.85m Florida promised him, he's suing for the ~$8m he passed up from Miami based on fraudulent bullshite fed to him by Napier et al.

You understood it correct, that is the basis of the lawsuit. My posts in this thread were directed at the poster claiming that UF made a deal with him and renegged, which is clearly not the basis for the lawsuit.

The basis, is, as you said, Rashada claiming Napier/Hathcock/Castro fraudulently dealt with Rashada to get him out of his commitment to Miami.

Signing the NLI with Florida was the act of losing an NLI with Miami.

The deal was $500k for signing the NLI and $500k for enrolling in the school.
Florida failed to follow through with both which is why Rashada asked to be released from the NLI.

Has absolutely nothing to do with what occurred or the lawsuit. Just read it, man.

You keep talking about the NLI which is totally irrelevant. Rashada paid $150,000 (from Hathcock) to Ruiz weeks before signing an NLI to Florida to get out of his NIL deal.

The only relevant piece of the NLI to Florida is that Rashada claims Napier told him that Hathcock would send him $1M after he signed the NLI during the early signing period.

You're funny.
It has everything to do with the lawsuit.
Signing the NLI disallows contact between Rashada and the other schools (especially Miami).
Not receiving the payment promised that you referenced indicates that no payment (not the $500k for turning in the NLI nor the $500k for enrolling nor any of the $13M) was intended to ever be drafted to Rashada.

That is exactly what the lawsuit is... in addition to a major recruiting violation by Napier.

Why let that recruiting violation be made public? If the goal was to settle, it would have gone away quietly a year ago.
