Head coach Sean McVay said the rookie quarterback isn’t likely to rejoin the team this season after being placed on the reserve/non-football injury list Sept. 13.

“He’s doing well,” McVay said Monday. “I would say there’s really no updates in regard to him returning back with us. “I’m not ready to say that he won’t be back with us at all this year, but it’s probably less likely than it is likely he would be.”

This is one of the weirdest fall from graces I've ever seen. Georgia fans did he have any issues while he was there. Did he have any discipline issues, drug/alcohol issues etc? It makes no sense to draft him in the 3rd round but give him no playing time whatsoever without it being a serious issue behind this.

Easier to hide a substance abuse problem in college. A lot of young people are doing it right now and have done it over the years.

The reckoning usually comes for them at some point...Stet's came quick it seems.

Kirby has done a really good job of taking some very talented shite heads and keeping them focused and out of trouble just long enough to win a title.

The only noise from within UGA was around his appearances at the first then second NC parade where people said he seemed really hungover and/or still drunk during those events, which is easy to overlook considering you worked your arse off, won it all, stayed up too late partying the night before, etc. Other than that, zero noise on Stetson having a substance abuse problem at UGA, but like another poster said, maybe he did, but was highly functional and found ways to hide it.

I also appreciate the first few comments here hoping for his well being. There are a lot of people invested in his failure for internet reasons, but that is really trashy. I hope he gets his shite figured out, and I hope everyone including myself gets their shite figured out, because we all got something.

Actually better for him now that it’s “early.” If he kept down the same path for 5 or 10 more years he might have ended up dead (assuming it’s actually a substance abuse issue and not something else).

The incredible thing about Bennett’s journey from walk on to two time champion QB is that he didn’t do it as the stereotype story of the smartest and hardest working guy on the team, best teammate, etc. We are talking about a guy who still has no degree, clearly liked to party, arrogant as hell, yet somehow still convinced elite coaches to let him lead the most talented team in America. He certainly has the it factor, whatever that is.

Had two people at Ga/Fl tailgate that swore he was on their plane from west coast.

Curios bc he was at one UGA game incognito.

Tbh guessing it is something a bit more than (possibly just) substance.

I don't know and I am not UGA fan that claims inside knowledge nor do I pretend to know what is going on with the kid but I can tell you this:

Even though he was old to still be in college, he is not old enough to have a serious alcohol problem...at least from a physically addicted standpoint. He may have other mental demons that turns him to alcohol...I could not say. Hell, alcohol may not even be the issue. But it takes several years to develop a serious physical dependence to alcohol.

Don't ask me how I know. Unless he started drinking HEAVY at 17 years of age he is not "physically" addicted. By that I mean he could quit and his life not be danger from seizures.

I really hope he gets all the help he needs. I come from a family with a long history of alcohol abuse and it is a killer if not addressed.

A lot of times people use alcohol to mask other problems, so once the alcohol is removed, the other underlying issues come to the forefront and then can be treated. Maybe he went into rehab and it was then that other issues were discovered and he is now able to have those treated and hopefully on his way to recovery and be able to live a full healthy life.
