Not by the time the national championship game happened. He was fantastic the last 1/3 of that season, especially the 3 games in the postseason.

Jake Coker was 16/25 for 335 yards and 2 TDs in the national championship game. He finished 2015 with over 3,000 yards passing, completing 67% of his passes, and throwing 21 TDs to just 8 INTs.

He is among the most underrated QBs of the Saban Era.

Jalen Hurts vs Georgia.

Bama wouldn't have even scored had Saban not benched him.

Coker was also the offensive MVP of the Cotton Bowl that year.

Had Coker been the QB of that 16 Bama team, they would have beat ever team by at least 21 points.

Jalen Hurts is twice the athlete and would dunk on Bennett like Shaq. As a QB, they are actually very similar.

I don’t get this narrative that Jake Coker is just this abomination of a QB.

He balled in 2015.

Look up Jay Barker's stats for the Jan 93 Sugar Bowl against Miami.

For the record, there were some national title games before the BCS.

Jan 66 Orange (AP)
Jan 69 Rose (AP)
Jan 72 Orange (AP)
Jan 79 Sugar (AP)
Jan 83 Sugar
Jan 84 Orange
Jan 87 Fiesta
Jan 88 Orange
Jan 89 Fiesta
Jan 93 Sugar
Jan 94 Orange
Jan 96 Fiesta
Jan 97 Sugar

And I might be forgetting some.

Stetson gonna be alright. After watching all the bowls there is only a small handful of guys that even compare to stetson.

A bad year for qbs across all collegw football.

Uf is a flat joke at qb...

Stetson Bennett is fairly comparable to Greg McElroy, pending the results of Mondays game, of course. McElroys best asset is that he won a national championship and was instrumental in kick starting Alabamas dominance over the last 14 years. McElroy may have been more talented than Bennett, although Bennett seems to make the most of his limited talented.

Bennett and Marshall are apples and oranges. Hard to even compare them. Marshall powered his team to some victories with his legs in 2

McElroy played great against us in the SEC title game but he was very limited against Texas because of cracked ribs. Believe he only completed 6 passes.

McElroy led a comeback victory in the Voodoo House of Horrors on the plains.
McElroy won an SEC title.
McElroy made Tebow cry.
McElroy chased Urban Meyer out of the SEC.
McElroy won a Natty.

How does IV compare to him??? They're both male humans I guess.

Barker never was asked to do anything special. If Stallings had a time machine and could have went into the future to bring back Mac Jones or Bryce to play QB for him back in the 90’s I bet Stallings would still have them turning around and handing the ball off. Barker never was a great QB but he might could have developed into a little better thrower had he just been asked to do it a little more. Bama could have won at least 1 more Natty under Stallings had he just been more willing to open up the offense a little more.

I love him but Jalen Hurts of 2017 (or 2016) was not as good a college QB as Stetson Bennett is.

Definitely different college qbs but I'd take Hurts over a lot of qbs right now.

Look up Barker's stats vs Kirby Smart in 1994.

How about Craig Krenzel at OSU?
He was dog shite, but they somehow beat the U with all that NFL thuggery. With absolutely No help from the refs either.

It's because few people really remember him. He was a one-and-done, starting for just one season before moving on. He couldn't beat out Blake Sims like everyone thought he would in 2014 and was mediocre in the first few games of the 2015 season. He won over the team in the loss to Ole Miss and got better as the season progressed. By the post-season he was the QB we all expected him to be when he transferred in from Florida State.
