Good for Steele. I figured he's land on his feet somewhere.

Former VOL and makes a lot of sense.

Hiring freeze still on for Pruitt but this hire was approved by BOT. Steele will make only $600k with Auburn footing the rest of the bill ($2.1m next 2 years). No buyout on either end if he isn’t retained by next staff.

Makes sense to steady the ship as interim as well if necessary.

How is that? Half of the Tennessee team appears headed to the portal, with more threatening to leave if Pruitt is fired

The players really love him

More will enter the portal if Pruitt isn’t fired.

This move should help the steady the ship some during the coaching search though.

I hope Tennessee finds some stability. I cannot believe their AD is basically inviting an NCAA investigation to try and fire the coach for cause. Just pay the buyout and move on

Every SEC team can afford a good-sized buyout

He’ll be a good interim option when Pruitt gets canned.

It is par for the course when you hire someone as incompetent as Fulmer as AD.

Until he is replaced it’s difficult to imagine anything improving in the slightest no matter what half measures are taken.

Fulmer makes Dave Hart look competent.

Only Tennessee would be hiring coordinators when we don't even know who our coach will be. Unbelievable.

Not really. They cannot hire Freeze after inviting an NCAA investigation - that would be incredibly idiotic. So they need to conduct a search, and need some stability to get through that search

Tennessee in for a rough few years because of Fulmer

My first thought...This is a back up to firing Pruitt.

Steele was once rumored to be in the hunt for HC at the Vols during the last coaching search. Wonder if this is fall back if Pruitt is canned.

In stead of landing on his feet, I'd say he jumped out of the frying pan into the fire.
