I didn't even know your QB was in the portal. How the frick did you let him leave?
Charge more for your cheese or whatever.

I agree. Their fans will come here to say he wasn’t good but how did they let him walk?

If he was such a good QB, why were they 0-8

It is your starting QB and he transfers to a conference rival to sit on the bench.

To be fair, it's a really nice bench.

He was a freshman playing on a team that has hilariously less talent than its opponents with a first-year coach.

Their defense was historically bad. The answer is I think State is going all in on the portal. First target was Jackson Arnold and now they’re after the kid from FSU. The original rumors were that he was asking for too much money and wanted to be guaranteed a starting spot, but now it seems likely that neither of those rumors were true considering his decision.

He wasn't worth the 1.5 to 2 mil he was requesting. We have a home grown kid coming up that will be the best qb prospect we've ever had. We have Shapen coming back and possibly the FSU transfer, who is very talented.

Money. LSU was willing to pay him more money than MSU felt he was worth.

I refuse to believe LSU will pay $1-1.5 mil for a back up QB.

He wanted to play somewhere he'll have a chance of winning some games. He'll have a good chance of being drafted if he only plays his Jr and Sr year and goes 10-2 or 9-3 at LSU.
It doesn't matter how good he is if he stays in Starkville. He has a 5-7 ceiling there and will never get a look in the draft.

It seems like it is between $500,000 and $1,500,000.
If you had told me five years ago college teams would be paying $500,000 for a back up quarterback I would have called the idea ludicrous.

It was unfortunate that Blake Shapen was injured in the Florida game and out for the rest of the year. I think he is underrated. Good news for State that he will return next year.

VB was much better than Shappen in that offense. It wasn’t even close.

We probably offered him a fraction of that for 2025. Our situation at QB is a bit precarious behind Nuss. Redshirt freshman Ricky Collins is in the portal, transfer Swann looked horrible, and true freshman Hurley should have been playing in high school playoffs 2 weeks ago.
He has a good chance to win backup job in spring and starting job in 2026.
