starts dont ALWAYS matter

I keep reading where people bring up stars for certain commits and for some it seems to be the end all. In addition I always see where people list players that had low stars to prove against that like Ryans or Arenas just to name a few. here is a list from 2002 till 2008 showing how many misses there actually are so please stop talking about how an 18 year old kid is going to be a stud because he is a 4 or 5*. this is rivals btw and i only did bama because i didnt want to go through all the other teams
all do to injury or just not that good of a player

Matt Caddell - was decent but never really lived up to the talent

Lorenzo Washington - again decent but not a ton of actual production

that is alot of wasteful talent for whatever the reasons can be. Obviously not all 4 or 5* guys pan out.

Mike Ford was goood, just not here. Several of those were back ups to, yep.. other 4 or 5 star folks. Some didn't live up to expectations, but to use that list as all of them being washouts isn't right either.

Chris Jordan will get a lot of playing time.
Stars do matter. If you get enough 4 & 5* guys, you will end up like Bama, LSU, Texas, FL, USC.
Tell me the last time a team won the national title that didn't have a #1 class prior to winning.

As has been proven over and over stars are just about meaningless. When a coach can pick up a phone and call one of the agencies and tell them he thinks a 3 star recruit should be a 4 star and that happens stars in general don't matter much. Typically a higher rated star guy has more overall talent but that doesn't take into account everything.

Yea but for every 5 star that flopped I can show you 10 3 star players that never became 5 star talent.

I agree that they dont always matter, but stockpiling talent is the key to winning a BCSNCG.

I take recruiting sites with a grain of salt, they are made for the fans to "dumb down" the recruiting process, nothing more. Too many get sucked up into it, when it shouldn't be the say all end all.
Yeah, the sites sync up with the elite talent more often than not, but a random fan watching highlights can spot it too. It take real skill to pick out the talent below that, which all sites are pretty inconsistent at.
A former HC should start a site, I would actually take what he says over the other sites with analyst who've never been on a coaching staff...

2010...USC will not win the National Title(nor go undefeated for that matter) but had the previous years #1 recruiting class.
Not sure you get the point. When was the last time a team won the national title that didn't have a #1 recruiting class. Stars matter and that has been proven.
Saban, Meyer, Carrol, Stoops, and Brown have all shown that stars matter, because there at the top every year.

Just the opposite is true actually. A much higher % of 5* rated players make it to the NFL than 4* rated players, and a much higher % of 4* rated players make it than 3* rated players. You can build a solid program by locating diamonds in the rough, but at the end of the day you need NFL caliber talent to win championships.

Texas had the #1 class in 2002 and they won the title in 2005.

True but the difference between a 3-4 star in most cases is minimal, same with 4-5 stars. My point is that there is a lot of wiggle room in the rankings and if you look at performance vs talent taken in there are a lot of top teams ini the nation that under perform heavily vs the talent they have on their rosters. There is a difference, in most cases, between say a 2-5 star or a 3-5 star but when one star seperates them there is minimal difference and at that point it comes down to many other factors.

Every highly-touted recruit isn't going to pan out. But, 75% of them are going to be better than 75% of the lower ranked recruits.
