Taking in practice. Looks like a tough job.

Pretty much his approach on recruiting the few years before he quit, too.

You know, I heard a story the other day that sorta peaked my interest - but it went something like this.
Everyone, by now, knows the story about Nick Chubb claiming he grew-up a Gamecock fan and really wanted to sign with us, but when he came for his visit Spurrier was nowhere to be found ... it pissed Chubb off and he ended up at Georgia.
Well, Will Muschamp and his brothers say that Will grew-up a big Gator fan. He was being heavily recruited (as the story goes) and visited Florida his junior year I think it was, but Spurrier wasn't there. Spurrier later blamed it on Jamie Speronis (a guy I really do not like) and Muschamp, after the snub, visited Georgia and ended up thinking he was going to get a formal offer there ... but he shattered his leg in a baseball game and ended up walking-on instead - overcoming the injury, doing well, etc.
So I was asking around, after hearing that story, with one of the ex-coaches we had here and, sure enough, one of the major problems they said they would regularly run into was with the HBC being MIA when big name recruits would visit. And he went on to tell me that Spurrier was well known for that even during his later days at UF.
Speronis remained Spurrier's Director of Football Operations at SC, as he was at UF, and is now Muschamp's Director of Football Operations as well. But it was close ... Muschamp really wanted another guy and Speronis had already cleared out his office thinking he was going to not be retained ... but in the end he was with the caveat that if he ever failed to let Muschamp know about a recruit stopping by for an unofficial visit he would be immediately fired. Speronis told Muschamp, no problem, and that it was Spurrier who always told him that he didn't want to be disturbed, unless it was an emergency, during his time off.
Speronis is a dicktard ... I'd personally never trust the guy. So I doubt he'll last long with Muschamp. But I thought it was an interesting story and it also gave a little insight into how much the Director of Football Operations these days, can positively or negatively affect at least one crucial aspect of a program.
I don't hold it against Spurrier though - he did what he did recruiting wise. You had to learn to take the good with the bad when it came to the HBC.

He seemed like he was tanked when he was honored at halftime on Saturday. Ol' Ball Coach seems to be enjoying retirement.

He worked harder at SC recruiting than he ever did at UF.

He expended more energy in those few seconds than he did in his last 3 or 4 years combined at SC.
