Thank heavens that burnt out coach didn’t end up in BR.

Thank goodness Jimbo turned it down...

Gauge interest means we offered him 75 million a year.... obviously.

Only for your ego's sake. Otherwise, who cares? LSU fans still didn't want him. Nobody ever doubted Woodword did. After all, he thought he was worth $100M the first time he hired him.
LSU fan would probably be pretty mad if it would have been Jimbo. As a matter of fact, outside of maybe South Carolina and Missouri, you would probably be hard pressed to convince any SEC school to trade coaches with you straight up.

He made one last call to close friend and A&M coach Jimbo Fisher to gauge his interest before entering more serious discussions
Hahaha so in your mind this equates to LSU making offers to get Jimbo?
You have never called a friend asking him a question you know how he will answer just to keep your friendship in tact...

Why does cultural fit matter?
If a coach wins, it doesn't. Winning solves all problems and everything gets forgotten about. If Kelly comes in and wins 10 games next year and a Natty the year after no one will care.
LSU just signed up for 10 years guaranteed though. They can't just walk away after a year or two and wring their hands.
Cultural fit matters when a coach struggles because it makes small problems snowball quickly. If people don't like you or can't relate to you they are more likely to go negative faster. Your rope is shorter.
It's also a potential issue because the difference between O and Kelly is night and day but LSU has players and recruits that thought they were playing for O. So that could mean transfers or decommits or players that just don't fit or like the new coach. That makes that winning thing harder.
The issue for Kelly also isn't that he is a NE/Midwest guy so much as he is an elitist. Saban and Jimbo are from West Virginia but they grew up middle class and in the country. Miles was also a Midwesterner but very blue collar in persona. Kelly is definitely not.
I think Kelly's hands off recruiting approach may not do well in the SEC. I think his cold personality also is an issue. Saban screams and yells but no one doubts how much he loves his players. Kelly treats them like employees and really doesn't like getting personal.
There are lots of examples but one is John Mackovic at Texas. He won back to back Conference Championships at Texas but was not a cultural fit. So he then had one blowout loss to UCLA the next year and he was Dead Man Walking. When people don't like you personally they turn on you fast.
As I said if he wins and wins fast no one cares. The issue is that LSU gave him a 10 year Guaranteed contract so they can't easily just walk away and if it goes bad it could go REALLY bad. Clearly LSU fans are happy with him though so that's all good, maybe he ends up fixing all the problems and winning Nattys in short order but I think it will be a lot harder than that
What a giant wall of text just to say all the things you're wishing come to fruition so LSU doesn't continue to own you with their new coach.

Scott and Jimbo have a long friendship. Of course he was gonna call him. 9/10 LSU fans wanted no part of him here though so thankfully it never happened. He could never handle a job with expectations.

Son, go play with your friends in Austin and Oklahoma while daddy and the big boys do work.

It makes sense since they are friends, but LSU is very fortunate Jimbo is happy where he is. Kind of sounds like Woodward was trying to get him a raise at A&M.
