The University of Alabama picked up a big commitment Saturday when Spencer Region announced his college decision.
The 6-foot-6, 350-pound prospect from Cullman High School is a member of the Scout.com 300 watch list for the class of 2011.
"I am going to Alabama," Region said. "My family knew that's where I wanted to go. They thought it was a good idea. Coach (Nick) Saban said to commit if I wanted to.
"Coach Saban was really excited. He said he has big plans for me. I mean a lot to the recruiting class. I am a big offensive lineman who moves well. I am physical, and that's what he loves.
"This is a dream come true. Ever since I was little I have always wanted to run out of the tunnel at Bryant Denny."
Region was in Tuscaloosa last weekend for Junior Day when he picked up a scholarship offer from Alabama.
"I really liked (strength and conditioning) Coach (ScottO Cochran," Region said. "He is probably my favorite coach. I loved every minute I spent with the coaches. Coach (Joe) Pendry (who coaches UA linemen) said he liked me a lot. He said I was a big lineman they can move around. I am physical and can put people in the dirt."
Region starting receiving a lot of attention from college coaches after his junior season when he registered 105 pancake blocks.

Trooper Taylor gave him some roadhead on the way over, and that was the deciding factor.

Seriously wonder about this kids stability. He gave that interview THIS MORNING.
And then Alabama's not family and Auburn's all kumbaya, WTF?

It seems like he did this out of spite. I'm willing to bet he'll still end up at Alabama.

The recruiting sites should just go ahead and put him as an Alabama commit right?

He committed and de-committed to Alabama in the span of 24 hours. He's from a family of Alabama fans, and is a lifelong fan himself. I'm willing to bet he still ends up at Alabama, considering there's a year until NSD.

I'd just as soon he didn't. Kid is a talent and will be great, but he made his choice. Would rather bring in someone else now that wants to be here 100%.

He's burned his bridges as far as I'm concerned. I don't really want him. Bama will get commits that really want to play at Bama. Not some prima donna that gets upset and pull things like this.
Even if he did decide and Coach Saban decided to give him a second chance, a lot of Bama fans will remember this and he will not be a fan favorite.

There's no reason to get bent out of shape on this one. He's a talent, that's for sure, but elite offensive lineman wanting to come to Alabama is a mile long. It's a year until NSD, and he grew up an Alabama fan, and offensive linemen rarely play early wherever they go.
