LSU
Crawfish etouffee, jambalaya, red beans and rice with andouille are all good options depending on your ability to make them and the preferences of your kid(s).

How has this thread ended up with this many comments so far and nobody has mentioned Chili yet?
What south eastern state is famous for chili? Isn’t that an American Southwest dish?

Oh it may have started out that way but it’s been officially adopted by the South.

Gravy is an art.
Every family's granny has her secret recipe.
Dang, bring on some biscuits and gravy!!!

There are plenty of great places north of I-10. You don’t have to go to New Orleans to get excellent food.
True, but my point was to get the "best" food, and I think foodies around the world would agree with me.

Yes, chili is definitely a southern tradition.
Depends on how hot you like it.

I like spicy food. It just doesn’t like me back so I have to stay away from it for the most part.

Yeah, especially red beans and rice has to be cooked by the right hands. Superb when done properly. Same with seafood gumbo. I've had terrible of both before. But that can probably be said of any dishes.

This is probably a really good list but I'll give a few alternatives:
Ark - something with a Tyson chicken and rice. They grow a lot of rice in Ark.
Florida - grilled grouper sandwiches
SC - shrimp and grits (or you could go Lowcountry low with slumgullion and/or hop-n-john)

New Orleans is definitely special food wise in this country. Especially considering it’s not really a big city. It would be in most people’s top 5.

Country Ham and biscuits, fried chicken, just typical Southern food. Y’all do bbq better than us, the Carolina’s do pork the best imo
