That's disgusting. What a boring BBQ culture
It was an outdoor competition/festival like atmosphere. Not a sit down meal. And honestly, I think many of the competitors weren't from SC. Don't care, it was some damn fine BBQ eating, and I associate it with SC, so boom, SC BBQ is awesome in my book.

CNB any kind of meat can be BBQ. Brisket just happens to be the BEST type of BBQ. Followed by ribs. Followed by sausage links. Pulled pork and turkey are meh.

And mustard based sauce is just a tragedy

And yet then I hear about how people have left the state because the food is so bad. It's really conflicting
LA people or Texas people. Commie pinko hippies or closet figs who secretly want to live in Austin or Cali and over compensate.

Well then I guess we shouldn't compare the two

You have to venture to places out in the country. I'm talking places that if you mentioned support for Hillary Clinton, they'd probably refuse to serve you.
That is where you find the best bbq.
I never get my bbq from places in Columbia.
I take your word for it. I never found any of those places.
I LOVE good pulled pork, by the way. I am a beef guy at heart, though.

I lived in Savannah for six years. Loved the town and that part of the country. There really is some great restaurants and the southern cooking is incredible. The BBQ is just kind of meh. Not terrible. There is some flavor, but I have had better. If I had to rate, I would put Texas BBQ, then Kansas City and follow it up with Carolina.

You don't "BBQ" anything. BBQ is a noun, not a verb, unless you're a fricking yankee or west coast yuppie. You smoke meats. You smoke beef and pork and chicken and sausage and turkey...it all makes for some great bbq.

Whole hog, vinegar pepper based is the only BBQ i recognize.
