The rumor is that it was not some Frat Boy, but some pressure from folks in Montgomery. It was local betting...

Think of the longest yard.

Yes they wanted Alabama to win and cover. The refs from that game may also be looked at..

I'd definitely look at them, too. The officiating in the first half was some of the worst I have ever seen.

The first tech on Gabriel for hanging on the rim was justifiable, but the second one on Denson was ridiculous. There were a host of other calls on Auburn that were not even close to fouls. It was pretty much one ref who was making the bad calls. That old, white-haired ref is the one I'm talking about, but I don't know him by name.

They are pretty consistent if you ask me. Tough to see much variation from game to game that would indicate a fix on a particular game.

No way he was getting rich. I suspect 1 of 2 things happened:

1) some local bookmaker whom he knows tossed the idea out while they were hanging out (possibly high and drunk) and Varez saw a chance to make a few quick bucks; or

2) Varez had a gambling debt or some other debt he couldn't cover with a local thug and this was a way to escape it.

Both logical possibilities, but didn't he also try to recruit teammates into the scheme? How would that figure in to these scenarios? Isn't that how the staff found out...a teammate came forward and told them? Any teammates who got involved would also have gotten paid.

Denson was probable the player that told the coaches... He was suspended, took a lie detector test and sat out one game...

As always there is more to this story...

just pure speculation, but after the Arkansas Game where Ward faked an injury, Auburn covered the spread (easily)... I think, at that point, he realized that points shaving was gonna be harder than he anticipated and tried to recruit a teammate -- chris denson -- in the scheme.

Denson ratted him out, was cleared of any wrong-doing, and was put back on the team.

Just a possible scenario.

Trying to guess without much information, Denson was approached by the same guy or by Varez and maybe even considered it or agreed to it, before realizing it was a bad idea and going to a coach to report it.

Gotta be. Coach Barbee wouldn't have made the remark of him making bad choices had he come just come forward to blow the whistle on his dipshit teamate. Denson even tweeted that he would never make the same mistake again. Whatever that references.

or sat on the information for a few days before telling anyone... NO WAY denson was actually involved with the on-court scheme.

wonder who they'll be looking at from his cell phone and what he offered to them in help. I'm sure they want bigger fish, if there are any out there.

Yeah, if he actually followed through with anything he would never have played again either.

He allegedly took a fall in one they didn't cover in. How many they did cover in and how many he tried to shave can't be determined by that. I'm not saying it's a big conspiracy by any means, as on first look, it appears to be solely him. Who the other(s) may be, at this point, is pure speculation. We won't know that for some time, I'd think.

Based on the info out there, this seems like it was caught early on and snuffed out pretty quickly, but maybe not. The info likely wouldn't be out there yet if the FBI didn't already know the scope of what they were investigating.

Could always blow up into something bigger, but it looks like a relatively small time bust with just one involved player at the moment. Others would be suspended if there was any information of their involvement.
