Unless nebraska comes up with a comprehensive plan akin to what they did under Osborne, they won't return to prominence.

We all remember when Nebraska was a power. Now it has the 95th ranked recruiting class. Behind schools such as Ohio, Eastern Michigan and Tulsa.
Have the Cornhuskers given up?
Nebraska’s fade started with the elimination of partial qualifiers in the Big 12 and accelerated upon their arrival in the Big Ten. To get in to the conference they agreed to junior membership, which left them with far smaller payouts than other schools.
Like many “blue bloods” they benefited from special rules and privileges. When those privileges were removed, they tanked.

I am wondering if Rhule made a mistake by not taking the PSU HC job.

^^ I did not realize this. Wow. If true, that made their move to the B10 an order of magnitude dumber.

That's a funny way of saying 'institutionalized steroid program.'
I find it a little interesting that tRant seems to hold Osborne in high regard. The guy was a POS

And how underappreciated Bo Pelini was at Nebraska.
Bo Pelini:
2008 - 9-4
2009 - 10-4
2010 - 10-4
2011 - 9-4
2012 - 10-4
2013 - 9-3
2014 - 9-3
So Brian Kelly was underappreciated at LSU??

The junior status was temporary. They’re now a full partner.

Rhule has made his nut off of how bad of a job Baylor was perceived to be.
In reality it was in the heart of Texas recruits and he hit gold at QB.
Hes an avg coach at best.

Nebraska was known as Steroid U for good reason. With the crackdown on that abuse along with limits on "walk ons" that caused them to tank and they have no way to recover their former glory.

I don't really recall Pelini having such a negative effect on the Nebraska brand like Kelly.
Nebraska was also still ranked heading into bowl season the year Pelini was fired and not fielding historically bad offenses or defenses.
But I'll entertain you and say, sure Brian Kelly at LSU would have been underappreciated at LSU, IF LSU has 8 losing records in the next 10 seasons like Nebraska did after Pelini.

I'd love to hear more about these special rules and privileges you think schools get for having the label blue blood.

I think you have to have an understanding of the recruits you are going to bring in, and build the team accordingly.
Kelly didn't seem to be building within LSU's talent pool. He had stabilized the chaos O left, but his teams seemed built around a model that just doesn't EXCEL with La athletes.
Kirby over at UGA isn't doing anything crazy, he's just got things synched to his talent base. It works.

Huh? Kirby just copied the Alabama program and everything he learned from Saban.
That's not a knock on him, dozens of coaches have been hired hoping for the same things, and he's basically the only one whose been capable of pulling it off. Its why he's considered one of the best coaches today, if not the best.
But I don't think he is out there molding their system according to their talent base. He's picking the players that fit his scheme where ever he can find them.

They kill coaches carriers or always hire overhyped coaches . Scott Frost has to be regretting his choice to go to Nebraska over Florida. Getting talent to go to Nebraska has to be hard .
Or staying at UCF.

Ask literally any program other than Texas if they believe UT had special privileges in the SWC and Big 12. The others went along with it, but those privileges existed.
Do you believe ND deserves their preseason and postseason rankings each year?
In the Big 8 and early Big 12, Nebraska had partial qualifiers, rampant dangerous steroid use, and a well-documented history of illegal payments to players.
Switzer’s cheating at OU is well documented and not debatable.
These schools got away with it because they had connections within conference and NCAA leadership. When other schools tried the same, they were heavily penalized.
I didn’t pay attention prior to Mizzou joining the SEC, so I’m unaware if these dynamics were present.

Alabama is a blue blood and we use to call the NCAA the National Conspiracy against Alabama.
