Academic prestige is absurdly overvalued. I went to two cheap public schools to avoid debt and it was the smartest thing I’ve ever done.

Johns Hopkins and Duke are nationally ranked equally. Hopkins has the advantage in medicine and lacrosse, so

Duke < Johns Hopkins

This is the first time in my life I can recall hearing of such thing as the East South Central region.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've heard of such thing as the West North Central or East North Central regions either.

I've occasionally heard of the term South Central to refer to the Arkansas-Louisiana-Texas-Oklahoma region, but I've never heard it being referred to as West South Central.

really?

I don’t look at the rankings/lists much so you may be right but I always thought of UChicago as a borderline Ivy League type school while northwestern as close but not quite that level.

Duke dominates Law and Business and

basketball >> lacrosse, so

Duke > Johns Hopkins

Well. Probably splitting hairs.

Northwestern is way more STEM focused and Uchicago is more liberal arts. I tend to respect STEM education more.

Chicago is a charter big ten member, they are very active with big ten in shared research. The only reason they aren’t in the big ten is they canceled all varsity sports to devote more funding to academics.
