Birmingham's Southside mentioned in the opening lyric. I don't think the song is necessarily about Alabama specifically, but more of making fun of those pushing religion.

Steely Dan can shove Deacon Blues up their arse. LINK

quote:

"I had an idea for a chorus: If a college football team like the University of Alabama could have a grandiose name like the 'Crimson Tide,' the nerds and losers should be entitled to a grandiose name as well," Fagen said.

Added Becker: "'Crimson Tide' didn't mean anything to us except the exaggerated grandiosity that's bestowed on winners. 'Deacon Blues' was the equivalent for the loser in our song."

Looks like we have 2 retards that think a song about Tennessee, written in Tennessee is somehow a song about Alabama.

John, I'm really curious why you felt the need to highlight "Mason-Dixon."

Are you unfamiliar with the general idea of Dixieland?

Also, do you not understand that the singer lives in Alabama, gets paid his weekly wages, and then travels across the border to Tennessee to get laid, because that's where all the home-grown prostitutes and whores live?

The state sucks so bad the only thing they could find to brag about in song is that their skies are blue!
