Is this true? I just spit out my coffee.

Good grief. I looked into this school's state reportcard. 32% of the students are absent at least 10% of the time. Only 38% enrolled in some form of higher education after they graduated.

Its true. It's so embarrassing.
Jeffrey Simmons beat a woman on camera for "disrespecting his momma." It was violent. He had signed but was still in high school.
He was a legit talent, and to his credit never got in trouble while at MSU and has become a great NFL player, but he should have never played at MSU. But the fact is, that if MSU would have released him, someone else would have picked him up and given him a second chance.
When Penn State fans defended their program for protecting a man that raped children, I realized that sports fandom has gone too far.
If this guy was not a football player at State, he would have already been arrested, charged with a felony and expelled from school. It's been 10 days and nothing legal or team/university related has happened.

You are missing the best part.
Only 35% of students are proficient in math.
Only 18% of students are proficient in English.
Only 29% are proficient in History
And somehow they produce a respectable 85% graduation rate.

It looks like Lanier and Wingfield are worse schools looking at those numbers. Yikes.

That's truly sad. The dumbing down of the public school system in this country is the primary reason we are in the shape we are in, IMO.

Seriously though...
Hasn't Mississippi figured out how to do this deal yet?
You identify guys with talent like this when they are young and you get them to schools in the burbs or to a private school with good football. There, they get exposed to a better education. Get used to being around students who aren't ghetto.
It actually seems to be a better system for these guys than the old days when these guys came straight out of the inner city schools like Provine.

That certainly happens some. See Jerrion Ealy, Ole Miss.

That happens a decent amount now. You’ll see it at MRA, Jackson Prep and JA.
Even some of the smaller town private schools in Mississippi do it.

We will slander what appears to be one of Mississippi's brightest to protect a random football player who started a few games on a bad football team.
It's sickening what "fans" will do to protect a player. Some fans would take up for a good player if he murders or rapes because "he cun make muh skool better in football or basketball hurr duhr". If it were some random black dude everyone would want him thrown under the jail. Pathetic.

Well you can tell he actually wrote that statement

I used to agree with that sentiment, but prison isn't working because there isn't much fear involved in going there
Another reason that prison isn’t a deterrent is cultural. Some people not only expect to go to prison, it is actually celebrated. It is just part of life. They grow up in fatherless homes, many times because dad is in prison himself. And the males that do serve as role models for them are cut from the same cloth. I don’t think it would matter how horrible they make prison, until there are cultural changes it will not change. And sadly, local leadership in many areas of the south has zero desire to change it. Just look at Jackson, B’ham, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Memphis and a whole long list of other cities.

If true, no one beats this team ever for the Fulmer Cup.

Not to try and go the philosophical route, but fear is one of the greatest motivators known...people go to work everyday for fear of not having enough...athletes train harder for fear of someone taking their place etc....when fear leaves the equation it becomes unbalanced and spiras out of control....so the question is what's the best type of fear to use as a motivator?
