There's only really one unspoken rule at this point and it's don't tamper. It seems that Freeze could have done anything he wanted, but he decided to talk to athletes that aren't in the portal yet.

And we’ve always been a program desperate to keep up with Alabama.
I have no problem admitting we’ll be like A&M and spend gobs of money to bring in talent. It’s not like it’s illegal anymore. Unlike A&M being saddled with a dud head coach, I like Freeze to know what to do with talent.
For those thinking this latest era of CFB hinders Auburn as a program, you don’t know us very well.

Who's being defensive? I think everybody pretty much is acknowledging what's happening. Every coach is tampering, every school is paying players, and nobody is really trying to hide it.
