Bama in the playoffs is polarizing. The targeting rule is polarizing. The NCAA loves this shite. ESPN loves this shite. This is all driven by ratings.

They will not put two Mountain West teams in the playoffs. They just won’t. If UNLV beats Boise, the committee will drop Boise at last two spots. They will not put two Mountain West teams in.

Ding..Ding…Ding. This is the correct answer. Does Bama deserve a spot? Hell no. But no one deserves a spot from 6-12. Bama will draw eyeballs. Tons and tons of you hate watchers are the reason we are in.

They have but do you really, really think they meant that for non-Power 4 conferences like the MWC?

Boise's best argument is that their other loss was a very close loss on the road to the current #1 ranked team. That may be enough if they keep it close against UNLV.

Big 12 is the 12 seed no matter what

UNLV would be the 12 seed if they won as they are ranked lower than either of the Big 12 title game teams.

The best chance is for Texas to beat Georgia badly, thus taking away some shine from the Alabama and Ole Miss wins.

Meanwhile, they need Clemson to win big time over SMU(very possible IMO), and that will elevate the Clemson win for USC. Although Georgia does get some strength from Clemson as well, the loss to Texas would be magnified.

But even if all that happens, it's a very long shot.

In reality, Alabama is probably in. Miami should be the one that gets dropped out, but they are ranked higher than they should be already. Still, Ole Miss is likely in with USC being a long shot.

Off the top of my head this is what I see.

Lost completely in this discussion is the rankings.

If Clemson wins, to keep Bama out this will have to happen.

Clemson will have to move to at least the 10 spot, with SMU to drop to 11, moving Bama to 12.

They are not going to leave SMU ranked above Clemson. Will not happen. I don’t see Clemson leapfrogging that many teams.

They could move Clemson to 14, SC at 13 and drop SMU to 15. That makes more sense from their current ranking structure.

Anyone who thinks 10 Boise doesn’t drop with a loss behind Bama crazy.

I don't know. The more I think about it, the committee is really going to struggle deciding on Boise 1) if Oregon wins convincingly in Big 10 Title Game because Boise took the Ducks to the wire and 2) if Boise keeps it close enough against UNLV and loses a tight one, preferably in overtime.

But if I'm Boise, I don't want to find out. Win the game, lock up the bye and erase all doubt. Don't leave it the committee to decide if they really want 2 bids from the MWC, something they would never even consider without Boise giving the Ducks all they could handle.

If this happens Bama will still be in. UGA will probably also be in but maybe head to head gets Ole Miss in. 4 teams from the Big10 and SEC are gonna make it most years because those 2 conferences are the ones who watch football religiously

Sung to the tune of "Deck the Halls"

Three-loss Bama in the Playoffs

Fa-la-la-la-la La-la-la-laaaaaa !

I called just as soon as I saw them ranked 13 after last weekend.

Bama will make the Playoffs every year, folks. Deal with it.

Bama should be cheering for UGA over Texas. That's their clearest path to the playoffs.

I think a win over the SEC champion will be enough to give Alabama the spot over SMU if they lose.

Bringing back memories of WVU losing to Pitt and Mizzou getting whipped by Oklahoma.

Which is exactly why the playoffs need direct pathes to the spots like the NFL.

Some of us only care to see bama crumble. The fans aren't bama fans and likely got their bama gear on the clearance rack at Walmart just so they could walk around saying "roll ride".

That would be hard to do in College Football with group of 5. If they went to 5 or 6 conferences it could happen

Too far back. Won't matter for them. Ole miss behind Miami means they are just as much a long shot as SCin my opinion.

And it looks like those fans are going to likely see Alabama in the playoffs. Again. Even after Saban retired. Even after they had 31 players transfer. Even after they were written off for dead after Vandy. Even after they were, for real this time, written off for dead after Oklahoma.

If Alabama makes the playoffs this year, Alabama will become the first SEC school to have two different coaches take them to the playoffs.

If Alabama makes it, after this year it will look like:

Alabama: 9 appearances (Saban - 8, Deboer - 1)
Georgia: 4 appearances (Smart)
LSU: 1 appearance (Orgeron)
Tennessee: 1 appearance (Heupel)
Texas: 1 appearance (Sarkisian)

The only “upset” that could matter is Clemson over SMU, and in that case SMU is getting left out like Miami is.

If Clemson wins , Bama is 100% out. Ward made sure to reference teams like TCU losing CCG and staying in. Teams 1-9; not seeds, but ranked 1-9 have spots locked somewhere in the bracket.

You can hear whatever you want; but he made sure to make that point.
