Someone explain how the top one is a pick play, but the bottom one isn't?

IMO, the reason why it wasn't called is because the Alabama DB grabs the Clemson WR running the pick and throws him down. IDK, pick plays are run by a lot of teams and it seems 50/50 if they're called or not

So the DB that wraps his arms around the outside receiver is legal?

Not at all, I'm on your side FinallyHome. Just saying the plays were called as pick plays, we got lucky that Alabama cheated on the final play of the game.

Yeah, the Alabama defender wraps up the Clemson receiver.

Georgia's was called because the receiver ran into the OTHER defender and there was a big collision, so it looked more obvious. Yes, he was maybe pushed into him by his defender, but the ref who threw the flag might have not been able to see that.

Georgia's looked worse.

That's kind of my point. The Alabama Db initiated the contact

Saban ran the same exact play, successfully, to win in OT several yrs ago in T.S. Bad on the year but it was the game where bama scored late to tie the game & then Saban ran this...trick play to win in OT. Karma.

Should have called a personal foul for the dirty late hit in the end zone ... and then enforced the penalty at an opportune time during this year's game.

What actually happened is #3 took out two Bama defenders by falling down at the first point of contact
