Didn't Texas used to run him out onto the field with two guys running beside him with ropes, or something?
They did at the Sugar Bowl after the Uga incident, through billowing smoke and torching fire with low lights, leading the team onto the field.
Not really a run, though. You are thinking of Ralphie the Buffalo at Colorado.
The media started this with a photo op and keep stirring the pot by thinking, hey, let's call PETA and see what they have to say.
The media control the message by choosing what to cover, and how to cover it.

It’s all fun and games until someone gets gored...then it’s just fun

Yeah no one minds live mascots but Bevo can provide as much danger as a mascot like Mike. If you’re going to bring him places he needs a pen capable of holding him so that he can’t harm the general public. What happened wasn’t the animals fault it was thenidiots that orchestrated it.
This. I was surprised they only had him behind barricades instead of properly contained. That animal could have seriously injured or killed a bystander.

but if someone had gotten hurt it would have gotten ugly fast.
Exactly. But more like "something" other than "someone." If that steer would have made contact with UGA, he would have killed him and then all hell would have broken loose in the stadium.

You ever seen a bulldog do what it was bred for? It's one of the most gruesome things imaginable

I know what they were bred for. I was speaking of if that steer would have gorged UGA.

The real PETA issue ought to be UGA's overbred line of white bulldogs. These animals can barely breathe; have horrendous health issues and only live 5 years or so.
Yale has adopted a more "natural" English bulldog as it's Handsome Dan mascot.

Early contender for reply of the year. Almost lost coffee.

If PETA wants to kill and eat the steer I don't mind but leave UGA alone.

PETA is infamous for killing most of the animals they take in. At a much higher rate then most animal shelters I might add. They are quite an odd little band of weirdos.
They also apparently want animals that are born into captivity released into the wild to die instead of being cared for by a team of world class vets and facilities nicer than most humans live in

They’ve been doing that for years.
Nothing to see here. Move along.

they want us to kill mascots?
Well, they kill practically all the strays they take into their “shelters” so at least they are consistent.
