Yep, twitter is perfect for recruiting info. Following individual people is dumb IMO, but news organizations, recruiting services, ESPN etc is very useful.
Especially if you have all of the tweets texted to your cell phone. Im constantly getting updates throughout the day even though i dont have access to a PC.

I really just wanted to get some recruiting info, I refuse to pay for it.
Well, actually, I joined cause Jason Isbell sat in with a really good band in Florence Saturday Night, and if I had been following him on twitter I would have known and gone to watch them play instead of listening to the shitty band that was playing where I went.
Then I thought about the recruiting info.
