I'd rather gumbo, shrimp creole, or trout w/lump crabmeat :)

I agree. The term "coonass" is about the same.

I fricking love corndogs.

And usually when people say it smells like corndogs at LSU tailgates it's because they've never experienced fried seafood / hushpuppies before, so I can't fault them for their ignorance and lack of culture.

Clemson bitch slapped Bamas relevancy back to the Shula days.

I honestly dare you to call someone from Pierre Part a coonass in a negative manner.

They will fricking kill you and feed you to the Gators in Crackerhead

one of the earliest memories i have was being mad at my granny because she was cooking corndogs for lunch i wanted something else... i assumed they were the typical garbage they served at preschool... naw she did it up from scratch. spanked my arse for getting an attitude with her... that homemade corndog turned those tears sadness and butthurt into tears of sheer joy. i'll never forget.

This. The whole corn dogs "insult" has always confused me even more because of the fact that the smell and taste of corn dogs is GREAT

Arkansas fans have embraced the Hogs moniker, Bama fans have embraced the Gumps moniker, Vandy fans have embraced the Sex God moniker. No reason for LSU fans not to embrace being Corndogs.

Because Arkansas fans are Hogs, Bama fans are gumps, but Nebraska fans (according to OU fan message boards) are the corndogs.
LSU fans are Fighting Tigers or Bayou Bengals.
It is comical that other fan bases continue to desperately hold on to this precious myth that is, for reasons that defy all logic, so life alteringly important to their very existence.......

That's pretty strange considering the fact that I've been around many Cajuns and they throw the term around loosely and with humor...what's up with that?

It can be a term of endearment used amongst friends.

That is why is said you call them a coonass in a negative manner......

Hmm? I don't get the anger here. It's just a silly nickname, much like the way fans (including LSU) call Bama the Gumps. I assume most fans don't really care much about the truth (or truthiness) of any such nicknames. They're just having fun with their rivals. When they actually care, and usually that means they care way too much, they get much more personal, with much nastier invective.

You can imagine the reaction of my friends in Michigan when I worked up there and described Cajuns as 'coonasses' They'd never heard it before and...well, it's not hard to guess what they thought I was doing. I had to make them look it up on the Internet before they decided I hadn't gone mysteriously racist.

It's just one of those words that works best in the proper context with the proper listeners.

I guess you could equate it to the many blacks who call each other the n-word without a thought, but will go off on a white person for the same thing.

Yes, similiar.

If you said,

"Hey coonass, come cook me some gumbo. You are the only one in this redneck hell hole in Alabama that can cook it right."

We wouldnt be offended.

If you said,

"I couldnt understand him speak. He was a typical ditch digging coonass."

Prepare thy anus

To an extent, but it's also -- as many people here demonstrate -- not nearly as loaded, I think. When used as an insult, it's more like 'dumbass' or 'white trash' than the n-word. Some people will get upset about being insulted, others will just laugh it off.
