So everyone took the bait and reacted to LSU taking a coach from Ole Miss. But Florida

Florida fans showed up in Oxford wearing T-Shirts bragging about watching their next coach. They were in full force at Knox’s football game. They believed they had their man.

By most accounts it sounds like they did. Kiffin wanted to go there and be the next Spurrier but Florida shot them selves in the foot and messed it up

By most accounts? As in, Florida fans?
They truly believed Lane was going to go there all because he has a beach house in Florida and his ex-wife’s dad was buddies with Spurrier
Florida was out once Brian Kelly was fired.

Ummm….No
The LSU job came open and Florida found out exactly where they were in the pecking order.

I think he entertained the Florida job but he couldn’t ignore Saban and Pete Carroll telling him he’d be retarded to not take the LSU job.

Kiffin had wanted the Florida job for years and was in contact with them before LSU came into the picture. Florida messed it up from the start. They interviewed Kiffin before LSU, and it was a bad interaction. If Florida had just gone all in like LSU did with no strings attached from the start, it's likely that Kiffin is locked in with Florida before LSU even gets an offer on the table. I'd rather him be with LSU than Florida. Get shite on Gators and enjoy your next Sun Belt coach

Florida had a signed MOU from Kiffin, he signed it the week before or of the Florida game.
He could have very well had one with LSU as well.

Another BS story put out by Florida fans.
LSU was on the phone with Kiffin the same Sunday they fired Kelly, so no, he didn’t sign a MOU with Florida 2-3 weeks later.
Florida is just lucky that Keith Carter held onto his desperate hope that Kiffin would stay for so long that they removed themselves from the race and settled for Sumrall, ultimately leaving Ole Miss with…Pete Golding

So his family didn't fly to Gainesville to look at homes and schools the same week they went to Baton Rouge.
Your honor... The defense rest.

Oh shite, Lane Kiffin had his ex-wife and sister-in-law take a private jet to tour a city for a day?
…so that means he DEFINITELY signed a MOU at Florida, right?
Stick to your HS Twitter rumors, Black Bear

Nah LSU opened their cheeks as wide as possible for Kiffin while Ole Miss and Florida were always gonna have guardrails on Kiffin. Your AD looks like Kiffin’s personal fluffer. Very embarrassing and sycophantic how much lsu has debased themselves for this fricking con artist.

Multiple national reports on NOV 17th that Family toured high schools in Gainesville.
Espn reported, I mean I guess someone in high school could have retweeted it?
Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin interviewed Kiffin in Oxford in early November
LSU became more attractive to Kiffin once Ausberry was promoted, sources told ESPN.
But they talked to him on the phone so he shut down Florida on the spot... Right.....

Do we need to provide the screenshots of you jamming Kiffin’s cock down your throat for years before he inevitably left you for LSU again?
Sit back and enjoy Ole Miss going right back to where they were before Lane Kiffin and where they ultimately belong.
Irrelevancy.

I definitely think Florida was in the mix.
Basically, I think Kiffin felt he'd done everything he could at Ole Miss, he'd maximized his market value, and was leaving. Florida fired first, so they were the initial destination, but Kiffin hung around to see what else would open up, and then pick and choose the best option.
I'm not sure Penn State was ever in play, although I think they reached out after firing Franklin. I just don't feel like that would have been the athletic fit overall, it's more of a power and defense type of program, and I don't think he gets them any higher than Franklin could have; and he knew that. He'd passed on Auburn before, because I think they're in disarray.
When LSU opened, they also made a point of realigning the athletic dept and putting the most ego-free guy (Verge Ausberry) in charge, and made a big show of "we have the resources, and will do whatever you need us to do". Ole Miss fans may bitch, but it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity... big program totally willing to cede complete control to him if he came.
Like the Tennessee fan above noted, Florida was trying to play hardball and retain control. Maybe if they knew LSU was about to come open, they'd have played it differently. But they blew it, they had first shot and couldn't finish the deal.

Hush! LSU called him on the phone the day after they fired Kelly and he swore allegiance. We all know Kiffin is a man of his word.. He did not talk to Florida, his family didn't look at schools. He got a LSU tattoo the minute he got off the phone with LSU!

Kiffin was likely headed to UF when Napier was terminated on 10/19…
Until LSU fired Kelly about a week later.
Florida fans refused to believe or acknowledge but LSU’s job opening torpedoed their coaching search.

Nope. We were screwed long befpre that. Lane wears the visor because of Spurrier so I doubt he did not to follow in his footsteps..LSU just promised to put a ton more monety into NILand I would guess offered Lane .ore money. We have a very cheap AD, so doubt LSU had to do multiple negotitions, Scott probably gave up when his first offer was declinded
