So ESPN can put this game on ABC but not the 3 CFP games?

Why? I admit I’m ignorant about tv ratings and numbers but it seems like Common Sense to put the 3 CFP games on ABC to get the biggest number possible…am I missing something?

I mean even the CFP doesn’t quite get NFL playoff level ratings but surely it gets better ratings than your normal sitcom or whatever. So I don’t know.

Yes. The fact that cable tv is on life support and Disney is doing anything and everything to turn a profit from its assets

NFL is the most revenue making league in the world. Which is surprising considering American football is no where near the most popular sport in the world. Follow the $$ and you’ll pretty much always get the truth.

Disney/ABC is the worst.

I really like NBC's SNF and ND football production.

NFL mandated that they simulcast playoff games on ABC. Starting next year one of the MNF games is ABC only with no ESPN simulcast, in 2023 3/16 MNF games are ABC only and the Super Bowls that ESPN/ABC have are ABC only.

When you have the bargaining power the NFL does you can essentially force ESPN’s hand if they hope to keep any package at all on their cable outfit.

While ABC is owned by Disney they operate independently. Differrent budgets, etc.

The CFP are bid based, and ESPN won the bid. That said, I suspect ESPN was trying to expand their audience by having the CFP.

I know some of your next questions would be, "But the company was bidding against itself?" Yes...in a way. But they both have their own hierarchy. Presidents, VPresidents etc. Their respective Presidents are wanting to make a mark to move up by scooping the Presidents of the other company. (In this case ESPN President wanted to scoop ABC President) However, they still have to be careful because profit also enters into the equation. If they get the CFP but their bid sends them into the red financially that won't be looked upon favorably by the Disney folks.

So it's a combination of ratings and profit.

Once Big CFB starts moving towards a breakoff from NCAA, maybe there can be some sort of organized effort to curb some of the anti-consumer habits that ESPN may currently do. But I fear that any expansion towards a super conference would be steered and orchestrated by ESPN themselves.

Between refusal to show the stadium in full, muting crowd noise, and announcers not actually being at the game, ESPN can make any event feel like a high school game

I tried to stream the CBS game on the CBS app and it told me it wasn't available and I had to download Paramount+ to stream it. WTF is up with that shite.

CBS owns Paramount+. They are trying to move people to join Paramount+ would be my guess.

Going to suck when ABC starts showing the SEC game of the week in 2024. CBS has the best production value and I prefer Nessler over Fowler.

CBS CFB blows away ABC/ESPN top to bottom, but my body and soul are ready for the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party to have a 8 PM kick on ABC

Minimum 500 arrests and $50,000 in property destroyed before kick. Post game will be a got damn war zone.
