Struggling with this one... Alabama was favored by most everyone and widely praised as the better team entering the game.

Most commentators entering the game talked about all the things Texas would have to do right to have a chance

Yep, they did, in fact that is all they talked about. Yes, we were favored to win, but did you notice all the talk for weeks on how Texas was the "underdog" and Vince Young and his beating of an incredible USC squad, about the Heisman curse, about how the #2 team wins? Then before the game, several of the analysts picked Texas to win, and when McCoy went down, everyone was like "ohh crap", even the woman who was doing the sideline reporting for Texas. I watched and listened to the whole telecast just deflate, and I don't remember hearing it deflate nearly this bad while FL or LSU was whooping OSU. Heck, Herbie was basically a Texas cheerleader for the 4th quarter.

We were favored, yes, but we were expected to lose. They expected to make it a USC game where Texas comes back and beats the un-beatable juggernaut. Fortunately, that did not happen.

So pretty much (in your world) people talk about teams like Bama and USC being superior just so they'll get cocky and lose to Texas?

No surprise they claim USC as champion the first time LSU won. Alabama won it out right. Texas QB got injured, then the backup should have been more prepared. Sounds like a coaching issue. I am LSU through and through but Alabama earned it. Texas still had an oppertunity when the ball was handed to them on the fake punt interception and Texas could only come up with three. Enjoy it gumps, you won the SEC and defeated the Big 12 champ, the title was earned. This writer should be talking about how the Big 12 was handed to Texas when Bradford went down.

No, I don't think it's intentional or favoritism. I tend to think it comes from just a few things.

1. People love the underdog. If you watched two teams play, one is ranked #4 the other is not ranked, it's going into the 4th quarter and the un-ranked team is winning. Neither team you really care about, who would you root for? In my case, the underdog.

2. History. It was the NC at the Rose bowl with Texas again, and once again playing a much more complete team. It's just nature to want to relive that great game again with Texas pulling out a stunner.

3. I think the third reason is everyone is just getting tired of the SEC dominating. Heck if the big-12 won 5 out of the last 6 NC's, I wouldn't be happy. Had Texas won this game they would be equal to what FL and LSU did, giving them at least an argument someone could at least hang with the SEC.

This wasn't about making Bama cocky, they knew that wouldn't happen this time around. They were more of wish-casting a repeat of history, which didn't happen.

Can we get a second asterisk for Patrick Peterson's three feet in bounds?

I kid, I kid.

Bama earned the victory; injuries are a part of football. Period.

They make it sound as though Bama sent Tanya Harding to whack his knee before the game. How would Texas' season look if Sam Bradford isnt hurt during their game. Do they want to put an * on that.

agree with #1 - people do like the underdog if they don't have another stake in the fight... it's pretty much the same as your #3

Re point #2 - 2005 USC was really not that much of a complete team... they had a fantastic offense but a pretty soft defense all year long. Texas' major hurdle to overcome was the idea they could compete with a team that won NC's in 2003 and 2004... on the field they were even odds or slightly better than USC that year IMO

We knew that, but if I remember correctly, the media didn't.

Seriously? Being an LSU fan you have no room to talk about other fans thinking everyone is against them.

cbssportsline.com is the worst sports website on the internet. FoxSports and ESPN does a much better job with their sports coverage. Don't let it bother you too much.

Hmmm...NCG injuries.

OSU's Ginn went down after the opening kickoff against UF in 2006. Put an asterisk on it.

Miami's McGahee blew out a knee in 2002 against OSU. Put an asterisk on it.

I'm sure there's more.

shite happens.

Naw...he was only about a foot or so inbounds judging from the mark his foot left on the field

How about one after USC 04? They killed an obvious over rated OK. Aub was left out and I do think by far Aub >USC. If Aub would have got in. I would have 6 sec teams win the BCS this decade

Ahem...isn't Bama winning the biggest prize in college football THE story of the game or season?

If you're reading the final polls.

Seasons are filled with achievements, controversy, etc. A team going undefeated is nothing new. A Heisman candidate quarterback going down in the first drive of the championship game is a huge story. No reason for that to not play a major part in anything written about this game.

U may hate to say it, But the Aubies had a good team that year and got better as the year progressed. USC was slobbed on all year because of the stink that was brought up by the AP and barley got through the Pac 1 that year. They had to have a last sec field goal to beat Stanford that year. That wasnt the new Stanford of the past 2 years either, it was the Shitty stanford. The pollsters left and undefeated Auburn out because of USC and OK were ranked 1 and 2 at the start of the season. It may have been a good game but Aub was def. better than OK and I do believe they were better than the 04 USC squad

No **. Bama won and would have won with the overrated McCoy. We won the SEC Camps on the way to the BCS with our back-up QB.
