Shutouts in SEC play, last 10 years...a rare event

Note: corrected for missed 2012 results.
Of 560 intra-SEC games played in the last 10+ years, only 21 produced a shutout, about 3.6 percent. While nothing is to be taken as a prediction of the future based on the past, it is interesting that Alabama threw 11 of those 21 shutouts, and that Vandy was shut out 5 times and LSU 4 times, .

Had Ole Miss scored 31 less points, Alabama would have shut them out, too.

The 40+ point wins resulting in shutouts amaze me the most. You'd think the teams getting shutout would at least score something in garbage time.

...or try a field goal or something to avoid a zero... but no one would actually do that because it would be so obvious and embarrassing...

The reason shut outs don't happen is because coaches are reluctant to leave starters in late in blowout games and risk injury while those on the losing side are desperate not to be shut out and will leave their starters in the game.
2012 UGA at SC should have been a shutout but Spurrier had walk-ons in the game which allowed UGA to score.
This past Saturday SC should have shut out KY but we had 9 freshmen on defense with 7 minutes left in the game and that was not cool. Muschamp claims he wanted to get his freshmen more experience for future games but, if I remember correctly we were only up 17-0 at the time .... or maybe we had just gone up 24-0, I just can't remember.

Get a life. All you do is post shite about LSU and follow other people's posts about LSU. You have never attended a class at Alabama, probably are from Louisiana and are a bandwagon bama fan. I doubt you could find Tuscaloosa on a map either. It's so obvious, lol. You're sad.

At least check your posts before you make dumb claims. 2012 Bama LSU wasn’t a shut out. LSU actually had the lead till the final moments.
The BCS Championship was not a conference game.

Alabama also shutout Arkansas 52-0 in 2012.
ETA: So you have to increase the total shutouts to 18, Alabama's shutout number to 11 and Arkansas' got shut out number to 3 (Ark creeping up on LSU and Vandy).

Alabama played LSU twice in the year 2012.

But the second one wasn’t a conference game. Poster said “in SEC play”. Technically he is wrong.

OP! Could you do a “National titles lost by 28 points despite being favored” thread?
It is also rare. Yugely rare.
Oh yeahhhh - give me those downys!
