Such a nobody that Bryant wanted Dye to take the bama job when he retired. My gosh you are a loser.

Shug Jordan and Bear Bryant were both good men and good coaches. I think Pat Dye was too, but got caught in a time of increased media and scrutiny. All three were men I would have loved to have sat down with to have a drink and just listened to the stories.

Is this true? The Bear and Coach Mac of LSU were big time drinking buddies.

Pat Dye himself was recorded by a player agreeing to pay him money.

The Albert Means recruitment alone involved more money than that the total of Auburn issues and quite possibly the entire SEC issues combined.
Also, Roy Adams openly admitted that he grossly blew up the amounts to get people's attention. It worked.

So good that the Coaches poll award the NC to Ohio State. Jeff Beard won that NC for AU who was on severe probation by lobbying the AP voters.

Today the '57 Auburn team remains one of only two teams to be unable to make a post-season bowl due to probation and still be voted #1 by the Associated Press at the end of the season. The other team was the '74 Oklahoma Sooners.

Eric Ramsey had a baby. I have listened to the tapes. In every instance, Ramsey came asking for help. Dye did what he could to help one of his players out.
Ramsey certainly wasn't driving around in a Vette his parents couldn't afford.........cough *stabler* cough

Not sure if this is true, but I’ve seen pics of Jordan, and his head was attached to his shoulders, not centered between his nipples. He had that going for him.

Cholly Mac played for Bryant at Kentucky.

Shug Jordon in 25 years never won a major bowl game
He coached at AU from 1951-1975.
Bowls in that era were mostly considered a reward for players and a holiday trip. Until 1968 in the AP poll and '73 in the Coaches poll, the final polls were released at the end of the regular season.
So, coaches and players were playing largely for bragging rights. But, much more emphasis was on the experience rather than the game itself for the vast majority of his career.
That, and there were fewer bowl games by far with much less opportunity.
Shug Jordan was one of the most respected coaches in SEC history. As Coach Bryant said, "Shug has more courage in his little finger than I've got in my entire body." Not a bad name to slap on a stadium.

So what Gator. Shug Jordan was a Man who stormed Normandy!
How long did it take your sleazeball Gators to win in Auburn? In that same timespan you brought up, how many SEC Championships and National Titles did UF have? None, Zip, Zero, Nothing.

Interesting note: Coach Chizik's dad, a Marine, was at Okinawa and Gene Lorendo, who became an assistant coach at Auburn under Coach Jordan, was also at Okinawa. Lorendo was in the Coast Guard and operated a landing craft.
