Shug Jordon in 25 years never won a major bowl game? But the stadium is named after him.
But all these Auburn fans will tell you he is some all time elite great coach.

Face it Pat Dye was better.

In the first 50 seasons of the SEC 1933-1982
Auburn had 1 SEC title. In 1957.

In the era when SEC teams didn’t play the same number of games, he would have won more SEC titles if Auburn did. 1972 is a perfect example.

He also coached basketball before he coached football. He was wounded leading his men into battle on Normandy. Perfect Southern Gentleman to boot. He is more deserving to have his name on a stadium than most other coaches who do.

James Ralph "Shug" Jordan ( September 25, 1910 – July 17, 1980) was an American football, basketball, and baseball player and coach of football and basketball. He served as the head football coach at Auburn University from 1951 to 1975, where he compiled a record of 176–83–6. He has the most wins of any coach in Auburn Tigers football history. Jordan's 1957 Auburn squad went undefeated with a record of 10–0 and was named the national champion by the Associated Press. Jordan was also the head men's basketball coach at Auburn (1933–1942, 1945–1946) and at the University of Georgia (1946–1950), tallying a career college basketball record of 136–103

During World War II, Jordan fought in four major invasions as a United States Army officer. He saw action in North Africa and Sicily before being wounded in the invasion of Normandy and receiving a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

Just an all around great guy.

Check history back then. There were only 4 major Bowls back and one was the Rose. That is like saying ND was not a great program because they only played in a few Bowl Games.

Didn’t Shug land Auburn on probation multiple times?

AL Hghway 53 in Huntsville is named Jordan Lane. I was told it was named after somebody in the same family by a Huntsville historian. Which means we mispronounce it and have for decades now. It should be said like "Jerdan" but we say it like "Jordan", like Michael Jordan.

He should have scheduled more SEC games in 1972. A smart coach would have foreseen a possible problem and corrected it.

I agree.

And Pat Dye made Bear Bryant’s arse quit.

But unlike Dye. Neither Bryant nor Jordan were forced to resign in disgrace.

Bear was old. Dye certainly didn't make him quit. Pat Dye is a nobody. Bear Bryant and his legacy will live on for centuries to come.

National Championships:

Bear Bryant- 6

Pat Dye- 0

Yea but to fair Jordan-Hare sounds a lot better than Dye-Hare. One sounds like a Michael Jordan shoe, and the other sounds like Dennis Rodman.

Nick Saban is entering his 15th season as Alabama's head coach and has the current record of 170-23. He will surpass Jordan's win totals by the end of this season.

To be fair, they were playing 10 an 11 game seasons back then. Not playoffs and bowls for everyone.

That being said, no one is comparing Shug to Saban.
