But you are right about one thing. What you consider minimal success at Alabama would be LSU’s best season in seven years.

The “most recent championship” talk is a deflection from Alabama being better than LSU in football, men’s basketball, baseball and softball this year.
Saying “we’re better in women’s basketball and gymnastics!” just doesn’t do it.
Saying “we’re better in women’s basketball and gymnastics!” just doesn’t do it.

One could argue that LSU fans can tell you exactly what not to do. Giving DeBoer this extension is equivalent to that needless extension that Aggie gave Jimbo in 2021.

Taking over a natty contending team and missing a 12 team playoff entirely in year 1, and barely making it in in year 2 is basically BK level.
The biggest difference is that BK finished #13 in year 2, while DeBoer was at #9. But DeBoer also took over a playoff contender while BK took over a sub .500 team.

2022: T-1st in the SECW, played in SEC CG and the Citrus Bowl
2023: T-2nd in the SECW, played in the ReliaQuest Bowl
The extra loss from 2022 was in the SEC CG, so that doesn't really matter. So if you want to argue LSU didn't regress because they had the same record (or because the loss in the SEC CG matters), that's fine. But you'd be ignoring the fact that the 2022 team played in the conference championship game and went to a much better bowl.

The difference is they to lost to two West teams in 2023, in 2022, they lost to an East team and a West team. Not really "regression", IMO.

Every coach loses players; Alabama had it better than most.
It's interesting that some of the same Alabama posters here that said BK was a bad coach after taking over a sub .500 team and going 20-7, are actively blowing DeBoer for taking over a semifinal team and going 20-8.
Just because the 12 team playoff came along and made them feel better about this situation.
