It's always coaching in these situations. The exception is Nebraska.

Then how do you explain LSU?
Not sure anyone would want Les Miles or Ed Orgeron and they’ve accomplished much more than any coach at Tennessee

Here is a list of SEC teams since 1990 that have won football national championships:
Alabama (7)
Florida (3)
LSU (3)
Georgia (2)
Auburn(1)
Tennessee (1)
I would like to extend a laurel and hearty handshake to the Vols on being tied with Auburn.

After the dirty hits on Rohan Davey in the sec championship game Rohans mom who was a Haitian voo doo queen put a spell on them and from there on it’s been bad

Worse than LSU?
Yes.
That and much worse recruiting classes. Higher than LSU three of the last fifteen years.
You don't get the players you won't win the championships. Add in middling coaches and you've got a recipe for close-but-no-cigar quarter century.

Tennessee had incompetent administration that allowed the hiring of incompetent coaches. Tennessee now has elite administration and competent (at the very least) coaching.

It's a tough place to win big at in the modern era. Look UF is way down and UT still can't dominate that series
They are a little like Nebraska with expectation.
Took one of the all time greats at QB to help them build and recruit the team his replacement beat FSU with.

WHEN NLI is re-structured, Tennessee will suffer
How do you figure? The fanbase is there regardless. The program is not just buying teams, it’s building and augmenting a program with multiple year core guys.
Ole Miss and those like them, sure, they can’t survive without NIL. But the Vols are fine.

No one’s situation in the sec is analogous to Nebraska. That seems to be the champion of bad “hot takes” on this board. Nebraska is in the middle of nowhere and has a small population. They had a few unique advantages that have been long eradicated.

Kiffin absolutely imploded what was left of the program
Kiffin was there a single year. If that single year was what imploded their program 15 years ago, then they were already terminal.

And yet your state produces significantly less high school talent than the likes of Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana. And the irony of saying all of this after you flew your Hawaiian QB in on a private jet and allegedly paid him $8 million.
Everything you say is just outright contradiction of reality.

It's more of the timing of when he left and how he left them, they then sunk the program even harder with the Dooley hire. I don't remember who else was even an option at that point. There was a lot going on with them at that time with how they got rid of Fulmer.

quote:This is simply bullshite. TN is growing in population every year, and there are more and more HS programs in Tennessee that pump out SEC quality players, hell Chattanooga alone in the last 10 years has grown massively in terms of the type of program and the type of player that it produces and we’re still levels behind the midstate, which has fed a lot of programs in the SEC and even elite programs. Tennessee just hasnt been able to take advantage of this. What happened from 08 to 21 wasnt recruiting, that was administration and awful coaching hires, but 8-10 wins is about the best we can hope for if we cant develop or recruit better. But you could say that about every team in the SEC bar Georgia and Texas, and maybe Florida in a year or two. Mississippi HS football is not deeper than Tennessee HS football. It has like half the population at best, and they dont have the resources
It's actually very simple and straightforward. There's not much HS talent in TN compared to Alabama, Georgia, Louisianna, Florida and even Mississippi. They thrived when UGA wasn't closing on the kids in Georgia back in the 90's. When UGA killed the pipeline of HS talent to UT, it collapsed. NIL can turn things around though. They are a dedicated fanbase.

Yeah but NIL is a whole new animal. The Huskers could get good again but I ain’t holding my breath on it

They just aren't very good

I just said the expectation part. It's a tough place to win at an elite level.and has to recruit nationally.

Population does not always equal elite football talent. Do we need a history lesson on why Louisiana and Mississippi have tons more talent than Tennessee, despite large population deficits?
