This may be the most ironic post in the history of message boards.

So what's your user name on ITAT?

Yes, but not in the way the casual fan considers "getting paid".
All the big programs have ways of indirectly "helping" players.

I had a coworker that had a friend that played for Alabama, told him he got paid big time, even bought him a car. Went from not being able to afford a car in high school to him having a brand new car with rims.

I would say Yes. A former RB had a family member employed as a waitress who would receive large cash tips from "fans" based on the RB's performance from his previous game...as an example.

Former 5* Clemson running back 'holding cash for his aunt' back in 2011. Pictures were posted on Facebook but quickly deleted. Bellamy has since been ruled academically ineligible and left the program.
Clemson recruit Kenneth Page posted this to his MySpace page in 2008 but it was quickly taken down. According to some, the cash came from his uncle who worked with ATM machines.

I've heard of a few different things. One interesting one is players or their families receiving gym bags with large amounts of casino chips.

Yes.
While they don't pay every player there are a lot of kids that get some cash for sure.
I'd say more coaches and family friends get paid to steer kids to a school. The remaining ones are paid. Again not saying every kid or every program but a lot more than people think.

Is it possible for a question as laughable as this to be serious?

My neighbors brothers daughter dated a guy that knew the UPS guy that deliverd stuff to Alabama and he spoke to the janitor that said they dont.
