Will go check it. Haven't looked at it in a while.

Well, I think the poor people don't buy suits logic is racist bull shite anyway. We've all seen people in college who spend all of their money on stupid shite that they can't afford, and that they had no business buying.
Who's talking race? My kids are not poor or black, and they can't afford stuff like that.
I seem to remember that after Cam appeared in the Heisman ceremony in a nice suit, bammers sent probably 10,000 of their total 100,000 letters to the NCAA rumoring that a Montgomery clothing store gave him a discount. Here came the NCAA dutifully trotting down to interview the owner. Then the next week, it was found out that bammer was doing exactly that - but of course that was okay, as usual. A typical "nothing to see here" instance. Hypocritical nonetheless.

I've always wondered about this. Everyone says they do, but I think that would be such a hard thing to cover up. Do you think the major programs today pay their players?
Not lesser players but you better believe TOP players are getting something. Strange how guys from the poor families start driving NICE cars. How in the hell are they making GOOD money all of a sudden to drive Caddy's with rims, nice systems, etc.

My roommate in college went $30,000 into debt because she charged too many shoes. It's not terribly uncommon.

I think people get help from boosters, but I also think that people who are on scholarship apply for (and qualify for) student loans and use the money to buy a lot of crap.

Maybe a little, but it's mainly boosters.

Our son is in college, qualified for student loans, paid for all his school stuff and had ample funds remaining so he went and wasted money on 20" tires and wheels (nitto trail) for his 4x4 truck.
And I'll say this, after I saw how much he wasted on the tires & wheels, let's just say he is currently learning that a nice truck that is parked is not as nice as having gas money to drive it anywhere and everywhere.

When you are in college and have $1000 bucks in your checking account, you NEVER think "oh! I'm going to need this for gas money all semester!"
Granted, I think athletes probably find ways to sneak around the NCAA rules, but I certainly knew athletes in college that maxed out student loans and bought nice stuff.
I am sure that in almost every university college town, a booster could call up the owner of any establishment, tell him that a player was coming in and buy something that costs $500, the player could give the guy $5, get a receipt that says he paid $500, and the booster could give the business owner $495 to balance his drawer.
I just made this up, but I imagine stuff like this happens all the time.

stuff like that only happens at Auburn to my knowledge. And my knowledge is extensive.

Speaking of AU's ways, I've heard from more than one source that when Bo was there, a big AU supporter who owned a lot of cleaners thruout the state used to have the players bring their clothes in for cleaning. When they picked it up, there was money in a pocket, and amounts varied on how good he was and/or how good a performance he had last game. Needless to say, Bo always had a lot of dirty clothes. The story also was that the Little General closed it down when he took over as HC.
