Was Tanner Muse I’m that 2018 Clemson D? Because if so it’s an automatic DQ.

The 2016 Alabama defense was the best that has ever or will ever be assembled

That defense also averaged scoring 8 points a game. Not points giving up per game, that defense had so many NOTs that they averaged scoring 8 points a game.

Miss. State’s defense was better than both that year. Look at the numbers and they did that with zero offense. Just an incredible D

Based on raw stats you don't get much better in the modern era than 1986 Oklahoma and 2011 Alabama. That '11 defense allowed less than 184 yards and just over 8 points per game

LSU played Oregon and WVU, rose and orange bowl champs with two of the most explosive offenses in football. Common opponents between LSU and Bama were near identical games.

Ole miss, miss state, and auburn scored less on LSU than Bama. Florida, Tennessee, Arkansas scored less on Bama than LSU. All of these scores were within a few points of each other. Literally 1 point more against LSU for UF and UT

Why?

Because three of their four DL starters were first-round draft picks? Just a guess. You'd be hard pressed to find another line like that.

Defensive numbers were almost identical per game with State.

If you dive a little deeper with common opponents, aTm and Bama, it’s not even close in yardage. 501 yards and 26 points given up to aTm by Clemson versus 293 yards and 13 points for State. 482 yards and 16 points given up to Bama versus 305 yards and 24 points. Granted maybe Bama racked up some yards in trash time. However, Clemson defense did have the privilege of a good offense versus a completely inept offense by State that continuously had State D in tough situations.

All in all both were all time great defenses but sadly only Clemson’s will be remembered because it’s a full team game. It’s sucks that such a good defense was wasted.

Lets not forget our 2003 defense where we won a natty and shut down Mr. White and what was being touted as the best ever offense assembled where they avg about 43 ppg.

LSU 21 Oklahoma 14. Jason White was 13-37, 102 yards, 2 int., and a 45 passer rating. LSU defense held OU to only 154 Total Yards!!! Let that sink in for a minute.
