Seeing a lot of talk around the web about 2018 Clemson having the best defense ever.

Especially the defensive front.

Why?

My response to that argument is: 2011 LSU and Alabama.

Two teams that averaged 35 points a game only had 1 TD against each other. And it was in the 8th quarter plus an OT sandwiched in there of playing each other.

How is Clemson's 2018 defense considered better than those two?

Based on raw stats you don't get much better in the modern era than 1986 Oklahoma and 2011 Alabama. That '11 defense allowed less than 184 yards and just over 8 points per game. They could have potentially had five shutouts that year. Kent State only scored thanks to an interception return to the 1-yard line; Mississippi State only scored because of a kick return into the red zone; Auburn only scored because they recovered a fumble in the end zone and returned a kickoff all the way for a touchdown.

2018 Clemson D will be forgotten in 20 years.

Joey Burrow and LSU 2019 will live forever.

The 2016 Alabama defense was the best that has ever or will ever be assembled.

10 of 11 starters drafted in the first 3 rounds. The lowest draft choice was Pro-Bowler Eddie Jackson, who was selected in the 4th round. 6 were 1st round draft picks. 8 are currently starting in the NFL.

I’ve literally never seen that posted on here.

That was one of the best defensive lines ever though. 3 first rounders and 1 4th rounder. They were a wrecking crew and completely neutralized one of the most explosive offenses in NCAA history.

I don’t think they are but the argument is simple- 2011 LSU and Alabama never neutralized an offense at the caliber of 2018 Alabama.

You have to realize how good that Alabama team was. We’re taking 15 guys that played in that offense that will play in the NFL and several at an extremely high level like Jaylen Waddle, Tua, Josh Jacobs, Jonah Williams, Alex Leatherwood, Jedrick Willis, Irv Smith, Jerry Jeuedy, Henry Ruggs, Damien Harris, Najee Harris and Devonta Smith.

If Alabama finishes the job and beats Clemson then they’re considered a top 5 team of all time. Now they’ll be forgotten in 20 years.

Lol no. You don’t get ran up and down the field by Auburn and get to be called the greatest. Also true freshman Jake Fromm was lighting that defense up. I’m pretty sure Dak had a good day against that team too.

Go look at LSU's schedule that year.

Oregon and West Virginia were pretty good offenses at that time.

And most of their points came against LSU backups

Not in the same stratosphere as 2018 Bama.

Well it did butt frick a very good Bama Offense.

The defensive front was pretty fricking good.

3 first rounders and a 3rd.

LSU 2011 had 2 first rounders and 2 3rd rounders.

LSU 2011 have far and away a better Secondary.

I cant Remember which assortment of 5 stars were on that Bama Teamz

Sorry, that was a typo. It was the 2016 defense. Everything else stands.

Well yeah.

The Cowboys aren't great that year, but still better than a college team.

That was an outstanding game for them but they weren't quite as dominant over the course of the entire season as 2011 Bama.

Maybe not, but that WV offense was pretty damn legit that year. Dropped 70 on Steele's D at Clemson. LSU also decimated Oregon's offense that year.

Dak was still with the cowboys then.

Your football iq is taking a huge hit in this thread.

What does Dak have to do with the topic of this thread? Is this thread about the greatest defense of all time or not?

Because 2016 Bama is the answer by a wide margin.

Based on what exactly because the stats don't bear this out at all.

The team Deshaun Watson took to the woodshed?
