I'm wanting to know how much (if any) ownership the SEC will have in the new SECN. Will it be stucture like the B1G Network, where the B1G owns 40%-51% while Fox own the rest. Or will it be like the LHN where ESPN owns all it, and just pays a base amount to the SEC.

I hope the SEC has a majority. Everyone is obviously out to make money, but I have more faith in the SEC than in ESPN when it comes to making better long-term decisions for the conference.

Seems like the SEC already got somewhat hosed on the location of the HQ, unless the state of NC really is added to the conference footprint.

The channel is expected to have its studio headquarters in Charlotte at the ESPN Regional Television offices, while the primary sales outlet will be based in Atlanta.

Looks like the balance of power is shifting east towards Atlanta... Figured the announcement woulda been in B'Ham...

SEC will own 51%. ESPN 49%.

What's got me wondering is how they will distribute local rights to games that wouldn't ordinarly make it onto the world-wide-leader.

I mean, there's a huge appetite for LSU Baseball games in the midweek. We'll pull 3-5K out there depending upon the opponent, but I can guarantee you the advertising dollars are here locally to broadcast every single midweek game. I know ESPN's not gonna do that. So will there be some local wildcats like Ronnie Rantz's old Jumbo Sports Network that get some shots at this?

Its important for a lot of SEC programs because I've heard Cox is gonna get rid of Cox Sports Television. They gave up the local broadcast rights to the Hornets/Pelicans, and they broadcast a ton of SEC baseball games as well.

Gonna be interesting to see what we get.

I could see the SEC selling packages of it but it's been taken out of the hands of the individual schools to do so. My guess is you might see some of this like the SEC Network game of the week in football has been - with a syndication network airing overflow content. Anything falling out will go to ESPN3 (or the SEC version of it).

Hopefully DTV adds this as part of the sports package.

I'm still pissed about all of the Pac 12 late night games I missed last season because DirecTV didn't have their network. If Dish gets ours first, I will switch, and I've been with DTV since Sept 1995.

This thread was on Page 6 so I missed it when I made my thread. Any guesses on what the numbers will look like?

Honestly I think the first year numbers may be modest. The goal at first if market share. That means getting the Network everywhere regardless of profits. Once it is on basic cable everywhere then the price starts to go up and that is when the cash really tumbles in.

I honestly don't think the importance of this can be overstated though. ESPN is essentially going all in with the SEC. The other conferences will really be an afterthought to them coverage wise outside of the big games. It will make the SEC truly NFL Lite over time.

I think ESPN is going to give the ACC a network too to avoid bleeding out teams to the Big 12 and Big Ten b/c those two are partnered up with Fox Sports.

Do you have a link for this? The only place I've seen that was on MrSEC's page that was linked in the other thread by dbt_Geaux_Tigers_196, but he said that was expected, not that it was for sure.

I hope it is though. If it is, we will have a cash cows going for us.

The digital side to this is going to be huge too and I'm more excited about that than the channel itself. There's a reason ESPN pushes ESPN3 so hard. It's a massive money maker. The reason some ISPs have ESPN3 and some don't is that ESPN sells to the ISPs for fees (about $0.20 per subscriber). It's essentially a tv network through the internet and ISPs are finding, like cable companies before, that not having ESPN3 and WatchESPN hurts their market share significantly, especially when they can just pass through the cost anyway.

The SEC bought back it's digital rights to do the same thing. This will be pushed through ISPs and longer term is a huge moneymaker. But more importantly, it's going to mean a ridiculous amount of content for the fans.
