I was actually kind of surprised that it will be televised out of Charlotte. I guess ESPN doesn't have a studio in the ATL area?

South Carolina wanted to be in control of that and since it's only 50 minutes up the road we agreed to let it happen in Charlotte where SC has a ton of J-school grads up there running that show. Frank Martin is up there all the time, so is Spurrier ... we'll make sure to take care of our friends though - Bama, Florida, LSU.

I told you Mizzou was a good addition, if for nothing more than his.

Yep, this was the whole reason that Mizzou was added. Getting the SECN on the basic cable/satellite packages in the KC & STL markets will bring in some nice revenue.

It's really the whole reason we were added, too.

I think this is a great move, but I do wonder if we Gator fans are actually going to lose some coverage of sports now that I am assuming our relationship with SunSports is over.

Adding a foothold in the Texas recruiting grounds also didn't hurt. Plus, at least they could feign cultural similarities with aTm...not as much with Mizzou.

I agree. But without the Texas market, I don't think the SEC adds TAMU. Our culture and the strength of our athletic department are ancillary benefits.

Do you already have a "sports tier" package with your local cable/satellite provider (I'm not sure which packages SunSports is on)? I think the SECN will eventually end up on the basic packages, but until then fans may have to buy the sports packages.

Or at least it's the biggest reason. And you know what? I'm okay with that.

Hope UVERSE carries it and is it too much to hope for a high quality HD picture?

Here is a map of the states that U-Verse is in. I bet AT&T is one of the first to add the network.

They have the Big Ten Network and even the LHN on some packages so I would imagine they will add a SEC network fast. Especially when you look at that map. The SEC states are a huge chunk of their subscribers.

Hopefully DTV adds this as part of the sports package.

Hopefully to add insult to injury ESPN dismantles the Longhorn Network and moves the entirety of the resources from that channel to SKYNET (I mean SECNET).

may have already been posted but here are the nitty gritty details that had to be worked out. Of particular note, this will be the end of the SEC Digital Network as well (a new one in conjunction with ESPN will be launched...a la ESPN3).

So if it will be out of Charlotte, does that mean we get North Carolina or NC State?

Nothing like being caught on a day with no jars in sight. I won't LR this happen on the rollout day.

It'll be interesting to read the fine print of the contract with regards to who gets to control when certain games are played, the league or ESPN. If it's ESPN, you can toss tradional games out the window as ratings money will be the determining factor. And with ESPN showing the NCG, you better believe that it will pushing its own agenda for that game as well. Bottom line, do we trust the suits in NY, let alone the league office, to take care of the league's fans?

I'm wanting to know how much (if any) ownership the SEC will have in the new SECN. Will it be stucture like the B1G Network, where the B1G owns 40%-51% while Fox own the rest. Or will it be like the LHN where ESPN owns all it, and just pays a base amount to the SEC.
