Copying a bunch of others is not mystique. The lights are not college football, more like NFL. They seem like a gimmick for trashy fans.

They’re an amazing addition and it puts butts in seats in an age where it’s way easier to stay at home and watch.

Saw my first game with them at Willy B this year. Didn't really think about it when I went.
While I was at the game, it was by far the most memorable aspect of the "event" surrounding the game. They're very cool and engaging, especially the ability to shut the lights off completely and go dark for a few moments. Adds an aura to the spectacle that is a Carolina night game.
I was very impressed, and my elementary age kid was as well.

Sanford Stadium is very subpar overall. Too small and not nearly ascool looking as Neyland at night.

Ok, so I hate change. But the JHS lights are pretty damn cool. I do think that part of the coolness is we only use them at the beginning of the 4th qtr and not on every 3rd down or timeout. The stadiums that flash them all game long, seems overdone. I would imagine that they'll be some rules governing use before long. I've seen a few times where teams are scheming in a timeout and poof, darkness. That'd be pretty infuriating as a coach.

I think there are some rules against that and I would expect more going forward.
South Carolina will use them after scores, before kickoff, and before the 4th quarter. When the players enter the field and line up for the kickoff, all the lights kick back on.
