Texas has the no tax thing
No it doesn't.
Texas has no income tax. Instead it has crazy high property tax rates, and they are rising faster than most people incomes every year.
We are at a point where many Texans are less able to afford to live in their own house with every passing year they own it.

so anyway, all you MFs stay out of Northwest Arkansas!
It's awful here and you'd hate it!
it's like panning for gold in the desert but there's no gold. It's so bad here! It sucks!

The property tax issue is very frustrating.
My local public high school is doing anything it can to spend the surge in funds. It has added two new wings, dug and up and replaced every athletic field, added brand new playgrounds, etc all in the last few years.
The Robin Hood plan does siphon a good bit of that away, but DISD is doing just fine beyond that.

If y’all wouldn’t live in NW Arkansas into Missouri, then y’all some lame ducks.
Missouris lake scene is goated. I like NW Arkansas quite a bit too.
Love Texas for the most part as well.

Forced?
Ok.
Florida Gulf coast.
Would never move to:
Mississippi
Louisiana
anywhere in eastern Arkansas
The rest seem about the same to me.

Moved to the Shenandoah Valley for a job and love it here.
I think the closest in terms of scenery and climate is Kentucky, so long as it isn’t in the city. I wouldn’t mind living there.

The the no state income tax thing is a ruse, if you plan on building a life somewhere.
Florida might be the exception, if they manage to get a large portion of their state taxes from tourism and hospitality.
I lived in Texas and the property taxes there were like double what I pay in NW Arkansas.

Texas, most likely. Possibly Tennessee, Georgia, or Florida.

Tennessee has no state income tax and funds the state of tourism.
quote:
5. Tennessee Tennessee has the fifth-lowest debt in the U.S., having $8.04 billion in total liabilities and $46.54 billion in total assets, resulting in a net position of $39.3 billion and a debt ratio of 17.3%. Tennessee is one of the most tax-friendly states in the country and will have no state income tax by 2021. While remaining low-debt and low-tax, Tennessee has managed to triple its Rainy Day Fund and provide tax cuts to its residents, including a 30% decrease in-state sales tax on groceries.
The state decided to be business friendly is growing (second to Idaho in GDP growth at 4.3%) Source
And we have low property taxes which is a plus. A moderately conservative government, 4 real seasons, yes we have a 9.9% sales tax but in Augusta GA I was paying 8%. 2% sales tax is a hell of a trade off for great schools (96% graduation rate, top 20 district in the state), low crime (Maryville violent crime is 12.1. The US average is 22.7
Maryville property crime is 34.9. The US average is 35.4) great economic growth (22% economic growth, 3.2% unemployment), and real estate is still high enough to keep it great.

If you were forced to move to another state that's located in the SEC footprint, which states would and would not appeal to you?
Own property in OK and TX. Thinking strongly about moving to Arkansas and calling it good. Love it there.
Heck, I like most all SEC states. I'd move to TN, MS, FL, SC, GA. Not that keen on Louisiana (too hot/humid) but love the people, not so hip on Bama except coastal areas, never been to KY. Southern MO is beautiful and good folks.
