So since Terrace Marshall has the same number for catch % and success rate (69.7%), does that mean that all of his catches were 'successful'?
Correct, 100% of his catches resulted in:
At least 50% of yards available gained on a 1st down
At least 70% of yards available gained on a 2nd down
At least 100% of yards available gained on a 3rd/4th down
Pretty amazing - he should catch more passes
Also means he basically was never targeted on like a screen pass probably or often on slants. Although I do know of a couple occasions of seeing both. He took 1 slant to the house on GaSo in game 1, it was like a 2 or 3 yard TD catch

In Seth Williams statistical defense, 16% of his targets were deemed uncatchable.
With Bo Nix throwing to him I would think it would have been even much higher than that

Yeah Chase is overrated- just ask Venables
Or better yet ask Trevon Diggs
Waddle is a freakish weapon
Chase is unstoppable

You realize that means he has the #2 LOWEST drop rate, right? It's a good thing.

BS stats. You have to look at the competition, the route and the length of the throw. Also down and distance because it tells you how a defense is playing you. Again, just bringing out stats is a shallow and incomplete look at any player without knowing the situation. In CF it is even more worthless.

Seth Williams and Anthony Schwartz would show out at a place like LSU or Bama. Burns needs to be replaced because he isn't getting the true talent to show in the field. Somewhat in Burns' defense, Gus uses his WR for blocking more than catching but your staff doesn't do your WR talent justice. And y'all have had issues with retention at the position which doesn't help either.
Most of it had to due with the routes that Gus ran. Even Danielson pointed out that he never threw to the middle 1/3rd of the field. Slants were not used much at all.

Oh I'm not just bringing out stats - I also watched him play.
He's not one of the 5 best receivers in the SEC. He wasn't in 2019 and he won't be in 2020. He takes plays off, he drops the ball, he isn't explosive. He has one very good skill - he catches balls in traffic and jump balls.
He is not better than Chase, Marshall, Smith or Waddle.

Playing in those systems, I would have him on par with them. Smith and Waddle were good because of speed and placement of the ball by Tua. Williams ran maybe three routes under Gus's Offense and the Ds knew he was the main target.

No way - he's basically Kevin Norwood. He's not even close to the all around talent that those guys are.

Nah, they're good because they're good. They're insanely fast, they have great hands and they both make contested catches.

Yea, Gus' offense isn't helpful, but Williams also isn't fast and drops the ball quite frequently compared to other receivers. He has one very good skill - and that's fine, but he's not on the same all around level as any of the 4 at LSU/Alabama.
He's a poor man's version of George Pickens, basically.

Surely Waddle or Smith from Alabama won the Biletnikoff award. Right?
Posted on 1/28/20 at 4:20 pm to SummerOfGeorge
Both Smith and Waddle create separation due to speed. They rarely are an over the middle possession receiver. Both can take a slant the distance, but both have dropped passes in a crowd. I think that is why Smith decided to return, to prove he could be that type receiver.
