That's a whole lot of effort just to add a 9th game (a contentious item already) and 2 more members.
It might be another decade before we get everyone on board with a 9th game.
I would be very happy if we sat on our hands re: expansion for another 20 years.
Not seeing any reason to rush it.
This conference has been stable (not losing members) since the 60s when Georgia Tech and Tulane left. Vanderbilt has stuck it out but who knows what the next 20 years will bring.
Is there serious concern that another conference is going to poach Virginia and North Carolina anytime soon?
The ACC isn't about to collapse.

In order for this to work the PAC 12 has to go to 16. What schools go to the PAC? I have an idea on how to move teams around to make it all work geographically, but the PAC getting 16 is tricky
Boise State & Nevada/New Mexico State.
Not great options, but they are the easiest to take for them.

Semifinal playoff like the CFB playoff.
Rotate East vs North, West vs South and it can rotate to North vs South etc.
Yeah, I really like the idea of a semi-final playoff for the conference championship. Although I think that instead of rotating the pods for the semi-finals, they should be seeded by record. Then they play just like the regular playoff now.
This would work especially well if the other conferences also reformed into 3 other 16-team super-conferences.
Then we could have a national playoff system that included the champion of each conference (via the conference champion) and a few at-large bids for the best teams that didn't win their conferences. Would really preserve the value of winning the conference, which should be kept important in CFB.

The pac 12 would definitely go with schools from Texas over Boise or Nevada

I really don't care if you believe me or not. Unlike the Aggy contingent on this board, LSU fans don't subscribe to a group think mentality.

Who would they take? Unless you think the Big 12 gets cannibalized by and split among the other conferences, no Texas team is going to the PAC-12.

The common theme on this board is no one hates LSU fans like other LSU fans.
You can't have that with group think. Sorry you don't like it.

Who do the others go to? That's a fricked up geographical footprint for the ACC or the Big 10.

LSU should play Kentucky annually instead of Tennessee. LSU/Kentucky actually have a pretty long rivalry.
Only if we get to have our long standing rivalry with Vanderbilt back too.

Would the per school revenue rise from adding NC State and VT?

VT has a pretty large footprint. Not sure about NC State.

Guess it would all depend on the additional cash from the SECN becoming regular subscription service in North Carolina and Virginia. A lot of big markets there (Charlotte, Raleigh, Richmond, Norfolk, DC, Asheville, Greensboro). And then of course whatever happens with the next ESPN/CBS negotiation, of that triggered re-negotiation.

Two pretty large, wealthy states with several large markets that are currently not in the SEC footprint.

I love everything about this proposal except:
The permanent opponents from other pods should be based off of historical rivalries, but with all teams permanent opponents tiered. LSU having to play Tenn, Bama, and UF every year is ridiculous. Especially when Arkansas is playing Vandy, Ole Miss, and South Carolina. Should be equal across the board, just like the individual pods are. Why have the pods based on equality but the cross-pod permanent opponents be power teams vs power teams and weak teams vs weak teams. Makes no sense...
Other than that, great job I really like this

Really cool idea but I don't see the Sec doing this

NC/Duke aren't leaving one another. And frankly, there's no way in hell either would leave (even as a package) from the ACC
If the dissolution of the Big East and Maryland and Rutgers dropping their conferences for the B1G taught us anything, it's that going forward Football Revenue is what will drive realignment and basketball revenue and tradition take a back seat.
