OK guys, there it is. This isn't a troll, I seriously think that it would be a good system.

I'm open to suggestions and recommendations. I used the BCS data because it goes far enough back to give a big picture view, but not so far that it's irrelevant. I left out last year because it would have complicated the analysis too much for just one data point.

Any thoughts on different teams to reach 16? Different pods? Different annual rivals? I'm open to revising the proposal if someone makes a good case for it.

Or any thoughts just in general? Good idea? Bad idea? Agree? Disagree? Think I should get a life?

Agree, but replace Mizzou with a new school.

North Carolina or Duke rather than NC State and I would have no problem with it

Great proposal. How would the conference champion be determined. Will we have a semifinal game and then a championship game?

and why is aTm a permanent opponent for us?

This is stupid. I've gotten more on board with eliminating division games, and having ~4ish permanent opponents you play every year and rotating everyone else.

I like it very much.

How are we determining a champion?

I seriously considered them, but I've heard that the NC legislature refuses to split them up for basketball reasons. And I do think NC State is the closest fit culturally. So I figured it would be easier to just take NC State and build them into a powerhouse with SEC money. But recommendation is noted and will be considered.

I agree that of the NC/VA teams to "open up that market" by far the 2 that make the most sense and seem like the easiest to convince would be VT and NC State.

However, like you said, both the Virginia and North Carolina legislatures are hardliners on keeping them all in the ACC. Especially Virginia.

Take North Carolina, Duke and NC State and drop Mizzou, because they suck.

Problem solved, other than you having to redo your whole thing.

I was thinking that championship would be determined by a game between the two teams with the best overall record. Use the same tiebreakers that we use now for division. Pods irrelevant.

But I didn't consider the idea of a semifinal. That's a great idea. Seed them by record and have a semi-final game and then a final game. Might have to add that to the presentation.

This is the way to go. Each team would have to drop an OOC game to accommodate the extra weekend for the semi-final, though.

That probably won't go over too well.

I really do like the overall idea. However, I don't think you could do a semi-final, a final and THEN the playoff.

I think you'd either have to just match up the 2 best records, have some sort of built in points system that takes into account schedule strength within the conference and wins/losses, or something else. Not sure how it would work.

Good stuff though.
