@SEC announces 8-game conference schedule for football 2024, with divisions eliminated. In addition, one required opponent from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 or major independent during the 2024 season, as Texas and Oklahoma join the league. #LSU @LSUfootball

quote:

In addition, the SEC will eliminate divisional standings beginning in 2024. The SEC Championship Game will feature the two top teams in the Conference standings at the end of the regular season. The single-standings format will allow every school to play every other school a minimum of two times in a four-year period, regardless of whether the SEC utilizes an 8-game or 9-game format for future Conference competition.

I think this will end Auburn-UGA yearly meeting

Wow, I hope the West takes scoreboard on the East in the conference’s last year of divisions as we know it, 2024. It was a fun ride my SEC West brothers.

Does "major independent" include UConn and UMass?

Was hoping for a 9 game slate. But, with home and homes scheduled with Michigan and tOSU the next four years, still stoked!

Will there be an SEC Championship game, and if so, why?
14 teams, you only play 8 of them. How can you possibly pick the top 2 teams every year?

At this point, shouldn't we be asking if it includes Notre Dame?

The Big 12 has a system to pick who plays in the Conference Championship. It sucks tho. There been years they have 3 way ties, and go to point differential.

man CFB is going to collapse under its own weight. The sport was in a healthy place and all the changes of the last decade have just made it a shell of its former self

So this is Ole Miss' last chance to accomplish something that Moo St already did 25 years ago.

This. There will be some lucky beneficiaries of an easy schedule

I hate this format. It will ruin a lot of annual matchups I look forward to. I just don’t enjoy playing Florida, Carolina, Missouri as much as Arkansas, Auburn, ole miss, lsu

The West champ got 50 put on them in last years SECCG. As a Mizzou fan, I can relate to that ( and worse) !

This is just a placeholder until they can get a bigger contract out of ESPN.

That’s why it’s going to be fun. The last 12 years for A&M (West) and Mizzou (East) were unique and special. Won’t happen again so I’m glad we got to be a part of it. Who knows what the future holds after 2024, but it wont be divisions.

Time to ditch permanent rivalries and just rotate all teams against each other.

If you're not going to do this geographically and the historical rivalries are changing, need to make it fair for everyone.

Yes, some years your team will have a cupcake schedule and sometimes it will be frick city. At least spread the fricking around fairly.

So Alabamas schedule is going to be

State
Ole Miss
Vandy
South Carolina
Kentucky
Missouri
Arkansas
Auburn

It was dictated as part of Sabans hissy fit over a 9 game schedule
