When is the SEC office going to be forced to move out of the state that elected George Wallace it's governor during the civil rights years? It seems that they would be anxious to move now that they've decided that the flag in Mississippi was bad enough to forbid championships from being played in those schools.

I support this measure. When the dogs of war are released, we must go where they take us.

The quality of this board has gone from awful to not worth posting on.

Please let the season get here without delay.

You may have to move it out of the country to find a place with a civil rights era political official of any sort without some degree of blatant or subtle racially bias or prejudiced behavior in today's context

According to my friends at Wikipedia, the Southern Manifesto initiated and signed in congress to stop integration in public spaces had signatories from every SEC state. Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina had 100% of their delegates sign it. If we went with the states least opposed to integration based on refusal to sign, only the Texas and Tennessee delegations had a majority of members of the US House of Representatives refuse to sign.

So... are we finally moving the HQs to Nashville and round-robin tournaments between Dallas and Nashville?

And they can ban championships in Louisiana due to their mascot being named after the confederacy.

Beautiful!

The Metro Atl Area has plenty of prime Office Space, and the employees will probably like the local schools and the overall feel of the Metro Atl Area

Was Lester Maddox the South's Most Racist Governor?

Maddox, Georgia's 75th governor during the civil rights era, wouldn't allow blacks into his resturant, which is now a part of Georgia Tech's campus. Even threatened them with pickax handles.

quote:

Lester Garfield Maddox Sr. (September 30, 1915 – June 25, 2003) was an American politician who served as the 75th Governor of the U.S. state of Georgia from 1967 to 1971. A populist Democrat, Maddox came to prominence as a staunch segregationist[1] when he refused to serve black customers in his Atlanta restaurant, in violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

quote:

Maddox said that he would close his restaurant rather than serve African Americans. An initial group of black demonstrators came to the restaurant but did not enter when Maddox informed them that he had a large number of black employees. In April 1964, more African Americans attempted to enter the restaurant. Maddox confronted the group with a bare pickaxe handle.

SEC should leave the south because it references the South in it's name...

So you wanna dismiss the Metro Atl Area as a place for the SEC Offices because GA elected a Racist Governor that served 1 term, until 1971, approaching 50 yrs ago

Maybe you're right, but give the Metro Atl Area time, we've been snatching down confederate shite left and right

An interesting story hit today, in Paulding County, residents are asking that Confederate Ave be renamed

If the a-hole confederates can't keep a street name in Paulding County then it really is over, you guys are quickly going from lost cause to just LOST

I was hoping ending the eight game streak and winning the NC would settle this kind of rhetoric down. If I had the power I’d put the damn office in Baton Rouge to shut the ones like you up. I’m serious.

People that think George Wallace died a racist don’t know much about George Wallace.

People will say that you can't find a Southern state that hasn't had a blatantly racist Governor. Unfortunately you can't find an American state that hasn't had a blatantly racist Governor.

Maybe they didn't target blacks, maybe it was Native Americans, or the native Hawaiians. It is what it is.

Now, as for moving the SEC headquarters somewhere else... where would you go? You couldn't even put the HQ in Memphis without people getting upset because Ole Miss has such a large footprint in that city.

I'm cynical about whether he ever really changed his personal views, but he was a skilled politician and parlayed his supposed turn to the light into another term as governor.

George Wallace told everyone he was okay with black people, and he asked them to forgive him.

There's at least just a big chance that he saw the large percentage of the population in Alabama being black as a good enough reason as that he had a change of heart.

Maybe he left this mortal coil having changed his ways, or maybe was just doing what he always did - be carried the way the political winds blow. Hell, maybe he wasn't racist to start but just figured that would get him in power to begin with.

We'll never know. We can only look at his actions.

Nope cannot put it in Metro Atlanta, because you cannot get police protection! They're all out sick.
