You do realize that’s just hollow words right? Nobody is actually expecting Texas to analyze surveillance footage and identify hundreds of people

I didn't like Slive. But I can't help thinking that he would have handled this with a couple of hits that would have left Texas breathless in a bad way.

UT should send them a million and a note that says get your refs some training..
That call was so bad, it's the first time Texas fans have ever done anything like that, and they have literally witnessed a game in the Charlie Strong era where the refs were actively trying to ensure they lost the game against Oklahoma State over a gambling bet. That is how bad that call was last night.

Why not? Other places have done it.

This makes the SEC look like it is run by a bunch of fragile Karens…..
Students and others threw bottles on the field because of an obvious and egregious bad call…..this is a warning the first time then a 15 yard neatly the second time ….that would handle it……
Back in the day we threw oranges onto the field when we clinched a berth in the orange bowl, every year….it was a warning the first time then a 15 yard penalty the second time….
SEC admin is a bunch of wimps……..
For reference i hat the Shortwhornes…..

Absolutely ridiculous they issue this multi page edict but do nothing to address the plague of terrible officiating the league has endured for years

It'll just open up a bunch of tickets for other students to request during game week.
First year of the SEC has resulted in far more interest in attending games vs say...Iowa State coming to town. There won't be any empty seats in the student section, just different students.

Side question but “ but students still get first come first serve seating even if they are able to successfully get a ticket during home game weeks” … most student sections don’t have assigned seating.

Texas did my first 3 years there.

They stopped doing it in 2019. Does LSU guarantee seats if you buy the student ticket package? I forget.

Looked like water bottles to me. But the alcohol thing must mean there were some beer and whiskey bottles on the field also. And perhaps some stinking drunk fans also.

The safety issue of throwing garbage on the field notwithstanding, who's going to assess a penalty against he SEC for having incompetent officiating?

he fine is to set precedent so that if they don’t ban the students they have a basis for increasing the penalties. They will audit them and if they don’t comply they will fine them again, and again, and again until they comply.
It’s a power move plain and simple.
There's no way they can identify which students did it. It's not like they have assigned seats. It's form over substance.

Need to have a rule, yes more rules, that during a timeout for dangerous fan behavior, an official can't look at the Jumbotron, convene an ad hoc meeting and then overturn a penalty. It makes the officials look in the tank for a particular team, not named Alabama.

I’m not sure .. but I assume that they all squeeze in. I don’t think that all students are guaranteed a ticket. They sell xx amount.

LSU only sells football tickets right and the rest is free admission? Texas sells a student ticket package for all sports so they oversell this significantly.

Why not enforce a 15 yard penalty dead ball at the game too?
Actually, a great idea for the future. Make it hurt their team, and they will think twice about doing that. (Not aimed at Texas specifically, as we had Tennessee do something similar a while back)
