How do you know he's not a good coach? He will probably never get the opportunity to prove it. He's got eight scholarship players. A small spot shooter that can't do anything on his own and a career backup center are the only ones with PT. We had to sign two no-name point guards and they both have ACL tears already. This shite is beyond terrible.

You know we had 3 players not play because of injury, right?

Maybe, but it was a scrimmage where Grant was experimenting. Not necessarily just trying to win.

Rick Ray is the worst hire we could have possibly made. Scott Stricklin did a piss poor job in the hiring process. There is no reason that we shouldnt have hired someone with head coaching experience or someone who knows recruiting in SEC country.
Id have taken John Brady or Tim Floyd with open arms

Releford didn't even start.

'll do some small observations from the exhibition tonight on a player by player basis. Steele, Carl, and Retin didn't dress out. Steele has the groin issue and Carl has the foot problem, and now Retin did something to his finger to require 10 stitches. He won't play Friday but hopefully Steele and Carl will.
Releford- He just doesn't seem himself. He didn't seem himself last year and he really hasn't looked very good during the scrimmage and this game tonight. It looks like he's lost a step or two and he was having trouble against Stillman's pressure. I hope whatever problem he's having is rectified soon. We need him to be productive.
Levi- He got some rebounds and played good defense, but didn't do much on offense. I don't really remember him shooting that much or being aggressive.
Cooper- He had a few nice pullups in rhythm. I wish he'd shoot more. He committed a few dumb fouls and ended up fouling out.
Lacey- Lacey played well. He hit our only 3 and did a decent job as PG. He got sloppy with the ball at times but I don't think it's anything to worry about.
Pollard- Pollard started very slow like a deer in headlights. He almost broke the backboard shooting a 3. Once he got comfortable and had a putback slam, things started clicking. He had some nice floaters and was really aggressive on the glass. He also did a surprisingly good job on the low post. I wouldn't expect that when we play a real team though.
Moussa- Moussa had a really good game. He caught the ball when they passed it to him, he composed himself around the basket, and made some shots like a guy his size should do. I think he scored 15 points. It was really nice to see him play well and look comfortable in the low post. He still committed some really dumb fouls and ultimately fouled out. He can't do that in our actual games.
Jacobs- He had a very quiet 16 points if you can believe that. He played some good defense by his standards. His left hook was lethal like normal. I want us to feed him the ball like we use to do for JaMychal. His defense is a lot better when he's involved on offense.
Overall, this wasn't a very good game for us. That's expected however. I mean we are playing a completely different style than we have the past 3 years. We are using 4 guards and 1 big man. We did play faster on offense which was nice. Our offense was 1 on 1 ball though so that might infuriate people when it doesn't work, but it's fun to watch when things are clicking. We had a hard time getting open shots off screens so that will have to improve. We did have nice cuts on offense. Our 3 point shooting was still abysmal and free throw shooting was bad as well. I expect (pray) it's much better beginning Friday night.

8 scholarship players is no excuse, other coaches in this league have had decent seasons with the same or less...

Just because you don't know anything about him, don't start labeling him as a bad hire. Stansbury turned our program into a dumpster fire. This terrible lineup is his fault. There's a reason we didn't hire a big name, Bundy. Stop crying and give your coach a chance. You gave Stansbury about ten of them.

Starters:
Golden: 8 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, 0 turnovers, 20 minutes. Played very, very well.
McBee: Knocked in 2 open threes. Looked the same as usual
Richardson: Elite, elite permieter defender. Looks a little better offensively than last year, but will still be limited.
Stokes: 9 points in just 11 minutes. Didn't get much PT, but could have scored as many as he wanted in reality if he had gotten normal touches and minutes. Stokes vs. Victory posts was the mismatch of the century.
Hall: Looks like Kenny Hall. He is a very dumb player, who gets his fair share of dunks and boards. Should not be starting on an SEC contender.
Bench:
Chievous: The most impressive Vol imo. 15 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists. Looked very, very solid inside and out. Could be a bit of a liability defensively.
Moore: Improvement over Washpun at backup PG. Can get to the hole at will, but can't really finish consistently. Should be a good defender.
Yemi: Fouling machine and plays very hard, skilled but not much of a threat offensively atp. Should be a good role player.
McRae: Very talented offensively, should be the perfect 6th man. 10 PPG or so I'd guess.
Edwards: A more physical version of Josh Richardson. Will not add much offensively, but he fits in perfectly with Cuonzo's philosophy.
Maymon will slide into the starting lineup when he gets back from his knee injury, relegating Kenny Hall to the bench.

Defense has me worried this year. I will be at the La Tech game on Friday ... hope it turns out well.

We can score now that we have guards, which is an upgrade in itself. Defense may be a problem.

Of course you would. MSU had Stansbury forever. An igneous rock could do what he did. John Brady could almost do what the rock did and can recruit.

Im not making an excuse, we SUCK and will be lucky to beat Alcorn State and Alabama A&M
Our AD made a terrible hire for our basketball coach. We hired a guy who had NEVER been a Head Coach and also had NEVER coached in the SEC and had zero connections to the state of Mississippi or the deep south in general.
